Location: Clintonville, WI | I am positing this in General Discussion to start, but keep an eye open in the event it is moved to a different section of MuskieFIRST.
This is the initial thread to start us off and it covers a lot of ground. READ THIS THREAD THOROUGHLY. But, understandably, there will be questions and those will be addressed before matches start. In the meantime, get a team set up per the rules and get ready to fish! _____________________________________________________________________________________
First……Tackle Industries has agreed to be our MatchFISHING sponsor for 2016. Thank you, James!! The prizes available include a TI rod and a bunch of TI lures. Much appreciated James.
Teams will be assigned to different pools, based on criteria yet to be determined. There must be a minimum of 12 teams to make this worthwhile but a lot more teams would be more fun and more competitive. There are a lot of ways we can set this up so I'm looking forward to many more teams getting involved.
Over the course of May - August each team will have to fish against every team in their pool. A team wins a match by having more points than their opponent. Points are awarded based on size of legal fish caught and photo documented, with bonus point awarded for proof of being on the water regardless of fish caught (or not)
At the end of the pool round, the team with the most points in each pool moves to the playoff round. Assuming there are enough teams to do so, I’d also expect some type of wild card(s) to advance out of the pools as well. The playoff format will be set up for September and we will finish with the MatchFISHING Championship in October.
Participation is FREE, and there is a short list of requirements:
1. The group expects a commitment to participate in all respects – if you sign up, please fish the matches.
2. You must have the ability to provide me with digital pictures of your results
3. Respect the spirit of the event. The idea of MatchFISHING is to incent getting out on the water with friends/family, to have fun and to have friendly competition.
4. Don’t cheat.
5. Don’t be “Richards” to MuskieFIRST, your opponents, others on the water, property owners, the DNR, me……..you get the picture.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RULES
Teams:
A team consists of one or two fishermen, fishing with each other from one boat at the same time. Teams may not have three people in the boat at any time during a match. If one of the team members is unavailable, a substitute may fill in, but one of the people fishing must be a team member.
Professional fishing guides are welcome to participate as competitors in MatchFISHING with their own team, but teams may not hire a paid guide as a substitute team member. In this set-up thread, please post a reply with the following:
team name
names of team members
City & State of each member (email me your full address in the event I need to send you a prize later)
Cell #s for each member
e-mail for each member
required two dates (minimum) for fishing availability.
Matches:
A match consists of two teams fishing against each other ON THE SAME DAY. Teams may fish different waters, but all fishing by both teams must take place between 12:00 am and 11:59 pm on the day of the scheduled match. For example…..A team on vacation at LOTW can fish against their opponent who is on vacation on Mille Lacs as long as it is on the same day. You will be required to fish against all teams in your pool.
Each team has until 12:00 pm (noon) the day after their match to submit photos and results. When you report in, your message must include the photo(s), length of fish caught, your team name, the date of your match and who your opponent is. The date/time received on my cell phone and/or email will be the official record so make sure you send them as soon as you can after your match. Teams failing to report results by the deadline will not be given points for any fish they may have caught that day. No exceptions. We will place results and images in THIS thread. DO NOT POST YOUR OWN RESULTS anywhere! Photos and results must be sent to:
Mike Morse (BigMo)
[email protected]
(920) 213-0898
For back-up purposes only, Slamr can accept match info for me. I will let you know in advance if I will be unavailable and when you should connect with Slamr. Otherwise, do not send him match info or try to get items from him.
Andrew Golden
[email protected]
(847) 989-9271
No rematches are allowed during the pool play rounds. Each match will be scored according to the results on the day of the match: win, lose, or tie.
Scheduling:
As long as you are fishing water on or after its seasonal opening date, Pool matches can begin at Midnight May 7, 2016 and must conclude by 11:59 pm August 31, 2015.
When each team signs up, they are required to provide two days during each of the months of June/July/August that they guarantee they will be available to fish a match to help get the matches set. Teams will not be entered into MatchFISHING until they provide these dates. If another team in their pool challenges them (by posting it online) to fish on one of the days they provided, the match will take place on that day unless both teams agree to change it. All agreed upon matches must be posted in the MatchFiISHING thread with both team names and the date to be fished.
If one of the teams is a “no-show” on an agreed upon match date, the match still counts. The absent team will simply receive 0 points. Please be flexible and do everything you can to schedule matches and honor the commitments, or communicate with other teams for rescheduling. 90+ days should be more than enough to get Pool matches in. There were some issues in the past with anglers that had an odd schedule for work and/or life; for example, those that are able to fish a lot from Mondays-Thursdays. Everyone has to be flexible and put the effort into making the scheduling work. Again, 90+ days should be sufficient to make pool play work.
Items:
Once a match is scheduled, teams will be assigned an item of some sort. This item must be visible in a picture taken with any muskies they catch on the day of the match. We will try to make it unique and interesting. I am your source of the items. I will have record of all the properly posted match dates and will provide items via MuskieFirst, text, e-mail or cell call no sooner than the day before the match. Items will not be given out early under any circumstance. Failure to include the item in the photograph disqualifies that fish from scoring points. No exceptions.
Scoring:
Points for Qualifying Fish:
Minimum size of 35”
35” = 5 points
every 1” above that earns 1 point
any ½” is rounded up
Points Per Match for Pool Standings:
Point total of fish length for each team
+ 2 points to the winning team or + 1 point for each team if there is a tie with fish point totals
+ 1 point for each team being on the water for the match (verified by photos with the item)
0 points for losing a match due to non-participation
The reason we score this way is 1) the fish point method is a common tournament method 2) it will determine playoff seeding 3) it will provide potential tiebreaker information for later rounds
The team with the highest point total wins the pool.
In the event of a tie in pool matches, the tie-breaker will be largest fish caught during pool play.
Playoff Rounds:
The winner of each pool, and likely some type of wild card(s) team(s), will advance to the playoff round. Each team will be seeded according to their FISH POINT total from Pool play. #1 will fish head-to-head versus #4, #2 will fish head-to-head versus #3. The first Playoff Round (semi-final) clock will begin at Midnight on September 1, 2016. These matches must be completed by 11:59 pm on September 30, 2016.
The winners of the Playoff Round will advance to the Championship. The Championship period is Midnight October 1, 2016 through 11:59 pm on October 31, 2016.
During the playoff round and championship, rematches will be allowed in the case of ties until one team wins. If neither team is able to win a match before the end of the time allowed, total Fish Points from all qualified matches will determine the winner. If total fish points are a tie, the largest fish caught during all rounds determines the winner.

| Are you going to have a bracket for southern teams that is wrapped up by mid June due to water temps? |
|

Location: Clintonville, WI | Hoosier,
With not knowing how many teams will sign up and where they are all located, I can't say there will be a "South bracket".
What I can tell you is that:
1) I wouldn't be inclined to set up a bracket to specifically coincide with water temps.
2) If there were to be a full bracket in a region with higher water temps in summer, I would still keep the dates May - August. I'd leave it up to the teams to set their matches based on dates that fit their calendars and practices. May - August provides enough time to work around water temps. If a bracket or individual teams are done with their matches by end of June, no problem at all.

Location: Clintonville, WI | I'd like to set the deadline for sign-up as April 30. I want to have everything ready and set up before May 7.
The initial flurry of entries was good. I'm going to plan that we have at least 12 teams by April 30.
** But, I am also thinking about options to work with less than 12. In a worst case scenario, even if we have to go with what we have today (8), we will still move ahead with MatchFishing. However, let's be positive and encourage more teams to get in!
If you are even pondering participation but have questions or concerns, please reach me on MuskieFirst or via my contact information. I'd be happy to address your questions and perhaps tilt you in favor of MatchFishing.

Location: Clintonville, WI | Please do NOT let a later opener deter you from MatchFishing. That is why I like the Aug 31 conclusion to the pool matches. That should give the June opener anglers time to get matches in.
It looks like their will be 12 or more teams to divide into pools, so depending on how I divide this up, there could be 3-5 matches one needs to fish. Eight weeks between a mid-June opener and end of Aug should be enough, yes?

Location: Clintonville, WI | Hoosier,
muskyroller is correct but I do feel the need to clarify a bit.
The rule states: "A team consists of one or two fishermen, fishing with each other from one boat at the same time."
In your case, one can substitute "shore" or "spillway" in the place of "boat."
What I want to clarify is that if you do that, both of you have to be fishing the same stretch of shoreline or spillway at the same time. I'd say this is defined as within eye sight and ear shot of each other.
For example, if on a river with dams......what WON'T be allowed is one guy at a particular shoreline below a dam and the other partner fishing on shore two dams down. That won't cut it even though they are fishing the same body of water at the same time.

Looking forward to some spirited matches against some different states...this is going to be fun!
Joe, you and Geno should get in on this and team up...or just fish with your son.

For mnmusky and anyone else in that situation, the shoreline / spillway option can apply to and accommodate anyone. Just follow the rules.

To that end, we are all subject to an "on your honor" approach. The rules don't require proof of things such as # of rods you had out.
If you know the appropriate regs and follow them, you will be ok. |

Location: Clintonville, WI | All is a go! I have attached team information for you all to use as well as all of the "regular season" matches you have to fish.
We had 17 teams sign up before the 4/30 deadline so that would have been uneven pools. So, I changed it up a bit. What I ended up doing was randomly choosing each team, and then randomly choosing four teams as their opponents. Once any team had four matches, I took them out of the hat. So, all teams were randomly disbursed and everyone has four matches.
The top 2 teams will advance with a bye in the first playoff round. The next 4 teams will advance to a bracketed first playoff round. The rounds will then follow the bracket format from there. Teams will advance and be seeded according to their total points scored in their four "regular season" matches. Keep in mind, the playoff rounds are set to coincide with September, October, November respectively. **If we can get playoff rounds completed before the end of the respective month, we will jump right into the next round. Please do what you can to get matches in promptly.
If you want to arrange your match dates in this thread, feel free. However, once you have a match set, I'm going to require that you EMAIL or TEXT me the TEAM NAMES and MATCH DATE. This will be the official and final way to set a match. Email is much easier to see than scrolling through a bunch of posts going back and forth. If a match needs to change and both teams agree to change it, that also needs to be sent to me in an email with team names, match date and new date. The best match date options are in each team's sign up post in this thread.
***** Photo Proof Items will be sent to you in email, text and/or this thread the day before each match. If you need your item by a specific time the day before, let me know in the match confirmation email you send me. Slamr will send items for the matches I'm in.
Matches may start at midnight May 7 where season is open.
To help with communication, I still need the following info from teams:
G2 - email
Team Handlin - cell phone #s
Beef Supreme - email for Doug Jones
Tretsven - Jon's cell # and email
Half The Can - Jake's last name
Bateski - Sr.'s cell # and email

| I also can not read anything on the picture. try taking a screen shot of your screen versus taking a picture with a camera or phone. you should be able to google how to screen shot with your type of computer I.E windows or mac etc.
I can't tell if that is a mac but if it is press (Shift, Command, 3) to take a screen shot and the picture should be as clear as if your looking at it on your own screen. |

Team Handler
Worralls
Fargo Yacht club
RamRod... maybe
I'm in Iowa so after June I'll really have to work to find cool water, you northern teams (Worralls, Fargo, Ramrod) may want to schedule me for early in your season. Handler is in the same situation I am so we should be good.

Handlin's fish photo is attached as well as an updated spreadsheet for matches set and results.
***Reminders to all:
Remember to include the date of your match date and opponent when sending me photos. It will be easier to sort through when there are several matches bunched together.
Take a photo of you on the water with one of the item choices even if you don't catch a fish. That is a "free" point when you send it to me.
In addition to the basic fish verification photo, if you want to include a photo of the fish being measured, that is up to you. By rule, the measurement is on your honor and not required.

Gurkha landed a 37 incher to get Handlin who skunked.
1. I think I'd retire a slimy "Veggie Tales" tie
2. Handlin, at least you were on the water. I feel like your photo shows when I'm in the office.
Photo item choices for 6/11 - Tretsven vs. G2:
Bag of popcorn
any edition of Cosmopolitan magazine
cigar
Most teams have matches on the calendar. Randolph & Mortimer just sent out a bunch of dates to our opponents so let us know when you can about your availability against us. A couple teams......ahem - including our esteemed site leader Worrall.....need to work on some matches. I know the bills need to be paid, but the muskies are calling.

There are a lot of points to be had yet with many matches coming up. A lot need to be scheduled, too. So with July upon us, keep watching your calendars for opportunities to set up matches.

Location: Clintonville, WI | The next wave of matches is starting today. K Team and Gerry's Girls Gone Wild are on the water as I type this.
Two matches on Sunday and several more through the end of the month.
*** Musky Maniacs may need to reschedule his 7/17 and 7/19 matches. These issues need to be resolved by the two teams communicating with each other, then letting me know via text or email what the outcome is.
Updated spreadsheet with matches updated.

Location: Clintonville, WI | All is good people. As the best QB on the planet once said......R-E-L-A-X.
I had just about zero cell reception for the past 10 days. I did appear to get a blip of service once in a while standing on one leg in the middle of an old road bed in national forest so I tried to send match items to a couple of the teams. Knowing my reception was awful, I also asked them to make sure they contacted their opponents about the items (if in fact they did receive the texts). Don't know if that happened or not.
I think I have all the match results from last week and will be getting to the updates as soon as I catch up at work. I am not retired, self-employed or independently wealthy (yet) so this is a down the list priority sometimes. I asked everyone if I could include their contact info in the spreadsheet I post and everyone said "yes." Point being, you are all able to contact each other to check on match results, contact someone for a potential out of the area fishing trip, etc.
The spreadsheet is out there so everyone should have the blueprint for what is scheduled / happening. Keep fishing when scheduled, setting your required matches and sending them to me. 35 days left to fish the opening round! Summer is going by fast.
Scheduling matches is still every team's own responsibility. Yes there are matches yet to be scheduled. If a team is having trouble scheduling matches with others due to lack of mutual communication, please let me know.
*** For future reference, if schedules, location, technology, etc. get in the way of sending/receiving photo items, please take the initiative to do one of the following:
1. buy a local newspaper on the day of your match. Have it in your on water or fish verification photo(s). If need be, take a second photo close-up of the front page showing the date and send it to me.
2. Assuming both teammates are fishing, use one cell phone for the photo and use the other one with a date/time screen showing in the photos. Again, if need be, take a close-up of the cell screen and send it to me as well.

My Uncle stole the lightning thunder later in the trip with a 46" 'skie and 6 lb smallmouth. The smallie was actually the star.....I don't think those hand held scales are always dependable but she was definitely 22" and thicker than a Tom Brady football. One of those fish that was so gnarly it was good looking. |

Location: Clintonville, WI | UPDATES!!!! I should be caught up through the 7/30/16 match. *** Please review the spreadsheet to make sure it is all up to date, including accurate matches you have scheduled, matches you have fished and matches yet to be scheduled as well as match results.
Match summaries and fish photos since 7/15/16:
7/15/16: K Team vs. Gerrys Girls Gone Wild was a double blank tie
7/17/16: RamRod's 40" took out Randolph & Mortimer
7/17/16: Team Olson vs. Muskie Maniacs was a double blank tie
7/19/16: Muskie Maniacs' 40" took out Half The Can AND Worralls
7/22/16: Team Olson's 36" took out Gerrys GGW
7/22/16: Bateski vs. K Team was a double blank tie
7/30/16: Gurkha vs, Tretsven was a double blank tie
Maniacs' gamble for taking on two teams on the same date paid off big. He moved into third place point total through today. Still quite a few teams that have enough matches left to make a move into playoff contention.
Sounds like a few teams (mine included) have been snake bit or have a tough go during matches......such is our pursuit of muskies!
Several matches are scheduled in August, with a material amount of matches yet to be scheduled. Aug 31 is the last date of the opening round fishing. Try get those matches scheduled this month. We'll move to the playoffs with whatever results we have, but it would be nice to have a complete sample of matches to determine the teams that advance. Good luck all.

Location: Clintonville, WI | A couple of additional matches have been scheduled since the last update......by my records, as of today, there are only seven matches left to schedule. See spreadsheet attached.
As I've mentioned a couple times now, work on getting matches scheduled. I understand if life/work prevent that from happening so let me know as soon as possible if a team can not fish all their matches.
I have an idea of what to do if that occurs but it would take a few things to fall into place. So, I will wait to propose that until we see what is scheduled and how much time is left in August.

Bateski with a 40" beats a Gurkha skunk on 8/12
Lake Country OTF with a 37" takes out a Fargo YC blank on 8/13
RamRod and K Team duel to a double blank draw on 8/13
Beef Supreme vs G2 was a double blank on 8/14
Worralls vs Lake Country OTF was a double blank on 8/14
Six teams have completed all of their matches. There are actually several teams that are within striking distance of a playoff berth and a few down at the bottom with two matches remaining that could make some noise with big fish or lots of numbers. More matches to come this week and next.

Location: Clintonville, WI | What a last few days it has been! 7 fish caught between 3 matches, with a couple dandy's in the mix.....45" and 47" (can you say "clutch"!?)
Gerry's Girls GW, Beef Supreme and Musky Maniacs all made big moves in the playoff picture. No grim faces for the Beef boys over their last two matches It's not over yet and three teams still have a shot at the next round, technically (12 teams have fished all of their opening matches). But, it will take big days for both teams in the 8/27 match between Lake Country OTF vs Randolph & Mortimer. Team Handlin and Team Worrall each have their last matches to go as well.
8/17/16 Bateski landed two 40" fish to beat Beef Supreme's 39" but Beef still made its move starting there.
8/18/16 Gerry's Girls GW put a stamp on their playoff chances by sticking a 45" to beat Lake Country's 37.5"
8/19/16 Beef Supreme then dropped its final bomb with a 47" to beat Musky Maniac's 35"
8/21/16 Randolph & Mortimer vs G2 ended in a double blank. Stupid Green Bay!

Location: Clintonville, WI | Top six teams will advance to playoffs and be seeded by their point totals.
Top 2 teams will have byes. #3 will fish against #6 and #4 against #5.
Top seed will then face the lower remaining seed and 2nd seed will get the higher remaining.
We have the eight weeks in Sept and Oct to get five matches in. Nov should only be needed as a last resort month, say for example in the event of several tie matches.
When applicable, tie breakers can be found in the original MatchFishing post.
The same scheduling and photo proof rules apply. The fish scoring remains the same, but there will obviously be no need to award win/tie points and on water points. Winner on fish points advances.

Location: Clintonville, WI | The opening round is done and playoffs are set! What a finish by several teams.
Fargo Yacht Club gets a 41.5" in their last match 8/27 to sneak in the playoffs ahead of Team Handlin who also stuck a 39.5" in their last match on 8/27.
The longest fish of the opening round, Beef's 47" on 8/19/16 got them from out of the mix to the #4 seed!
9 fish caught in the last 6 matches between 8/17 and 8/27. Very exciting.
THANK YOU to all the teams for joining us in MatchFishing. MuskieFirst truly hopes you enjoyed the fun and appreciates your patronage of the web site. I look forward to doing this again next year.
Overall results of the opening round and the playoff seeds are as follows. Contact me per usual with the match dates you arrange. I will send photo item options the day before your match. Results need to be sent to me per usual.
Playoff Seed Team Match Points Total 1 Tretsven 2 30 15 2 49 2 Bateski 1 2 13 23 39 3 Dirty 30 0 10 15 11 36 4 Beef Supreme 2 2 10 20 34 5 Musky Maniacs 2 13 13 6 34 6 Fargo YC 14 2 1 15 32 Team Handlin 15 1 2 13 31 Gerry's Girls GW 2 2 1 18 23 Lake Country 2 10 1 9 22 RamRod 2 1 13 2 18 Gurkha 10 2 2 1 15 Team Olson 2 1 2 9 14 G2 2 2 2 2 8 K Team 2 2 2 1 7 Randy & Mort 2 1 2 1 6 Half The Can 2 1 0 0 3 Worralls 1 1 1 0 3
The intent is to fish the quarterfinals through the final match (that is a total of five matches) by 10/31/16. Do what you can to get your matches scheduled promptly. November is a last resort month in the event of ties or schedule issues. Quarterfinal Info Teams have been seeded after the first round based on total points.
The #1 and #2 seeds will get byes in the quarterfinals. The opening round quarterfinal matches will be #3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5. Quarterfinals may begin at Midnight on 9/1/16. Get these matches schedules as soon as you can.
#1 Tretsven and #2 Bateski have byes. #3 Dirty 30 vs. #6 Fargo Yacht Club #4 Beef Supreme vs. #5 Musky Maniacs
Rematches are required in the case of ties, until one team wins. Semi-Final Info The semi-final round will be #1 seed vs the lowest remaining seed and the #2 seed vs the highest remaining seed.
The semi-final round will begin the day after the last quarterfinal match is fished. Rematches are required in the case of ties, until one team wins. Final Info The time period for the final match will begin the day after the last semi-final match is finished. Rematches are required in the case of a tie, until one team wins. If finals can not be completed by the last two teams on or before 11/31/16, total Fish Points from all qualified matches will determine the winner. If total fish points are a tie, the largest fish caught during all rounds determines the winner.

I'm hoping someone catches a fish. Wish we could have stretched the 30 we caught last match.
Not sure if you're a hawkeye fan but at least one fargo team won

Beef Supreme stuck a 43.75" beauty to beat Musky Maniacs. Musky Maniacs worked hard to battle a significant overnight cold front that had settled in and the Beefers moved a lot of fish with only one taker......one is all it took. Congrats to Beef Supreme for advancing and also to Musky Maniacs for a good run!
The Fargo YC and Dirty 30 rematch is this Saturday.

(1) Tretsven vs. (6) Fargo Yacht Club
(2) Bateski vs. (4) Beef Supreme
Semis can take place starting immediately.

Location: Central IA | Beef Supreme has an out of town wedding we have to go to this upcoming weekend. We will be at the Muskies First fall outing and could fish Oct 13 or Oct 15 but we have a guide lined up on Oct 14 and will be driving home on Oct 16. Either day the weekend of October 22-23 would work although we prefer Saturday. I knew this wedding would bite us but I'm not brave enough to tell my wife that I "have" to fish. |

Location: Waukee, IA | Good match and good luck going forward, Fargo! My wife had the winner follow her in super hot a couple times but her figure 8 skills left a lot to be desired. Dirty 30 will be back next year, 2016 match fishing was a blast! Big thank you to BigMo for organizing it again

Location: Central IA | Tkuntz don't be too hard on your wife. My figure 8 skills are not up to par either. You've got a wife that fishes, sounds like a keeper to me.
Seems like the competition has shifted up a notch the last few weeks.
Lots of fun. Thanks to Big Mo for all the work. |

Location: Clintonville, WI | First, we have to make the following presumptions: 1) that I am available to do this again 2) that MuskieFirst will accept me doing this again 3) there is a sponsor(s) willing to be involved
Given those things and no other wrenches in the works, I would project organizing 2017 MatchFishing in March.
Go back to the original post of this thread for a good reference of the rules and expectations. There are usually some tweaks and updates year over year but the basics have been consistent over many years. If you have any questions, you can use this thread or PM me. |

Now, the question is how the Beef boys did.............stay tuned.
Will a rematch be required or is MatchFishing guaranteed a new champ this year? |

There is still a shot for a back-to-back champ. Bateski blanked and was in danger of bowing out. But, he has new life with the Beef boys blanking as well.
Get the rematch on the calendar as soon as a common date can be found. |

Location: Clintonville, WI | We have a winner from the Tretsven vs. Fargo Yacht Club Semi-Final.........Fargo Yacht Club stuck a 45 incher to take the win. Congrats to Fargo YC for advancing to the final match-up. Congrats on another good season to Tretsven.
Tretsven has caught a LOT of MatchFishing fish over the past two seasons but has just stalled out in the playoffs. I look forward to seeing what he can do next season!
Fargo YC will meet the winner of the Beef Supreme vs. Bateski match taking place this coming Saturday 11/5.

Location: Central IA | Fargo Yacht Club, are you up for a Saturday 11/12/16 match with Beef Supreme? As the elder statesman on team Beef Supreme, I would love to see a conclusion before my reels start icing up. Thanks to Bateski for a tough semi final round where the fishing was tough for both teams. Thanks Mo for all the work keeping this going. |

Location: Clintonville, WI | An official confirmation here.......our final match has been set.
Beef Supreme (4 seed) vs. Fargo Yacht Club (6 seed)
Beef Supreme squeaked out a 37.5" to beat Bateski's 36". MatchFishing will have a new champion this year. Pretty good title defense by Bateski going to a two match semi-final, if you ask me.
11/12/16 is on the board by the Beefers as a potential final match date.
Finalists have until 11:59 pm on 11/30/16 to complete a match with a winner. If there is no winner by then, the champ will be decided as follows:
If neither team is able to win a match on or before November 30, total Fish Points from all qualified matches will determine the winner. If total fish points are a tie, the largest fish caught during all rounds determines the winner.

Location: Clintonville, WI | 2016 MuskieFirst MatchFishing Champ: Beef Supreme
Beef Supreme, aka Colin Jones and Doug Jones, stuck a nice 43" this past Saturday when all the chips were in the middle of the table. Congratulations! Iowa representation is now in the record books.
They beat a game Fargo Yacht Club team, aka Tyler Wenner and Ryan Hoefs, who ended up blanking for the day. They had one shot but a sucker pick up didn't make it into the net.
For their victory, Beef Supreme has earned a Tackle Industries rod and a 10 pack of Tackle Industries lures. Thank you very much to James, owner of Tackle Industries, for his sponsorship this year. James is VERY generous when it comes to product support for many things muskie related. We are thankful for his involvement.
For their terrific season/competition, the Fargo Yacht Club guys will each get a MuskieFirst t-shirt from the magic prize vault.
I will be in touch with both teams to make prize arrangements.
For those of you still fishing, good luck and be safe. For those of you finished for the year, have a great off-season. I expect to be at a couple of the shows this winter, Milwaukee and Wausau most likely, perhaps Chicago......the MuskieFirst swap meets in particular. Those are great opportunities to stay connected. Hope to see some of you there. |

Location: Central IA | Thanks to BigMo for all the work running the contest. Truth be told, Colin caught every fish during our matches. My contribution to team Beef Supreme was as net man. This is my third year and while I've improved each year, I've still got a long way to go. Good thing I have so darn much fun on the water with my kid. We've had some great days together when we didn't even see a fish, but putting one in the boat is still a big rush. Thanks again and I look forward to next seasons matches.
