Well folks, it's getting to be that time of year again. The Heartland Chapter of Muskies, Inc. Is putting on their Twelfth Annual spring tune-up muskie tournament on Clear Lake, IA. 17 total fish have been boated over the past 2 tournaments. It's an exciting and fun day of chasing muskies around clear lake followed by a reception at "The Other Place" in clear lake, which includes free beer and pizza to tournament entrants. Come on out and have a great time.

Thanks,
Matt "Big Perc" Percival

Rules #9 and #10 should be deleted. This tournament is not a team tournament but an individual tournament same as it has been the last 12 years. You may fish as many people out of a boat as you want but you score your own points.

That's disappointing. Was really looking forward to it being a standard format. What caused it to go back to an individual format? Every conversation I have had recently was that it was going to be a team event (like it should be). The only thing an indidual tourney promotes is "creative thinking" , like all the fish verification pictures taken with one fisherman...regardless of who actually caught it. Why not take that variable out of the equation?

I agree with Marshall. Why leave in a rule that has and will continue to promote cheating? This tournament has been a cheaters game the last few years and it is extremely disappointing. I really don't understand why the new team rules couldn't be included. If you're going to leave it as an individual tournament, why not format it like the Frank Schneider Jr. tournament where each legal muskie goes towards a drawing for the tournament prizes?

We felt as a board that you can't have a tournament were as 1 person may be a team going against a team of 3people that is not fair at all that is not a standard format .How many years out of the last 12 has there been cheating last year only 2 fish caught out of 60 some entrants. Most years only a handful of fish are caught at most .Heard of so called snagging 1 year but may have just been rumors and if they were the new rules would not of solved that problem. It is not like it is big money tourney for elite status it is just a fun get together usually in crappy weather. Lets not make more out of it than there is. I do like the frank schnieder tourney idea though maybe the board will look at it for next year.

Changes to the rules were just updated on the "muskie club forum" where the correct entry form is now posted...sorry for any confusion.

I'm not even referring to snagging. I'm referring to a boat catching 3 fish and having one guy hold all three fish so it looks like he caught them all just to win 200 dollars. Kind of pathetic. It goes on principle, you use the word tournament and it automatically becomes a competition whether friendly (like this tournament is) or not. Said competition should be fair for all tourney entrants, simple as that. I'm not saying this is an elite tournament but neither is a game of poker at my house and I would expect everyone to play fairly there as well.

Why continue to use a rule that is being taken advantage of? You say that it is not fair to have a 3 person team competeting against one person. Let me play devils advocate a bit, would it be fair in the current format to have 3 people in the boat where every fish that they catch goes to one guy so that they can win? That is 3 vs. 1 in a different scenario. In a way, the current format is flawed by the same reasoning you have used to discredit a team format.

iowamusky,
GLodden is referring to the year that an individual "caught 5 fish" supposedly and another boat caught 3 fish. The 3 fish, point wise would have wiped the board with the 5 fish but because 1 fish was caught by the guy in back and 2 by the guy in front and the 1 individual that "caught all 5"; the team the should have won got 3rd place and the other guy won. Not saying catching 5 isn't possible in one day but on clear lake and in late April, come on!. No pictures were ever presented and they were just able to walk away with $200 which would cover most guys gas to and from the tournament. I sure hope that the tournament staff holds rule #5 to a "T"

PS...there were 4 fish caught last year...and 13 the year before...

I or many of the new board members were not on the tourney committee then. We all know who was running it by themselves at that time. I think we have enough members on committee now that know what is going on this year. Sorry for your 3rd place finish though. If further questions pm me this is not the place to do it.

Well, it is looking like the weather is going to be AWESOME this year for the tournament...82 degrees today, down to 48 degrees by Friday, rain and east winds...couldn't ask for a better tournament weather forecast...NOT!!!!!...its all because of the drake relays!

Same here. I don't know why I am surprised though...out of the last 8-10 years, maybe 2-3 were questionably "good" weather. Still worth it for the beer and pizza :).

Checking out the forecast again...the "feels like" temperature for Saturday morning at 8:00 am is 26 degrees...never thought I would be busting out the survival suit in April for this tournament, but I think that is the best option...Man I love Iowa!

What a great time and turnout this year, most fun I've had at the tournament for a long time. Weather was brutal but it was a blast anyway, the new room was great. Thanks Chapter 10!
