Location: West Virginia | Was wondering how to do through wire constuction? I figured u take your lure shape after u get it how u want it then cut it into but not sure if this correct. Would a scroll saw work for this? Also how to make space for wire and what to use for putting back together |

| i use the shape of my bait dictate how my through wire is shaped . i use tempered stainless steal wire .051 or bigger so can use the harness as a inner spine of sorts. if my harness can not only hold the hooks but greatly strengthen the bait as well. Although this eye it up while your building is time consuming but it is the most important piece of the bait . If your making a custom lure why not customize the harness to fit the flow of the lure and make it strong . lots of different ways t do it though . look your at your design then it do the way you think fits the type of lure your making . make it yours thats whats fun about this stuff  |

Location: Muskegon Michigan | There are three basic types of wire through methods.
#1 slotting the bait. This method requires using a saw or some form of bit to run a slot down the center of the belly deep enough to lay in a wire form. Then the slot is filled in with an epoxy filler and sanded smooth. Big Games and Cranes use this method.
#2 building the bait in two halves. A pattern is dremeled into one or both sides and the wire form is sandwiched in between the two halves and glued together. The Loke and Ziggy lure are done with this method.
#3 line drilling the blank. The blank is built in one piece and a belly hook insert hole is drilled and the bait is then drilled from each end to this hole. An insert is installed and then the lip with wire attached is installed threading the wire through the insert and out the tail. The belly hook insert holes are then filled with lead or epoxy or both. I use this method on all of my wire through baits. Deep Threat series and Rippin Shads. I learned this method by studying a Parry winkle and studying a box of lures built by the late Bill Wolfgang . Many large deep divers are built using this method.
The biggest thing is this, You have to just cut some wood and experiment. Find which method works for you and practice it until you cant get it wrong. I am building several thousand wire through lures every year now. here are a couple of examples.

Location: Muskegon Michigan | Landon posted that nice picture thread of those Gliders and this is how I do mine. Line drilling the blank and using hook hanger inserts. My inserts are different but the method is the same. |
