Posts: 175 | The MN DNR has developed a long range muskie and trophy northern plan: http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/fisheries/muskiepike_2020.html Public comments close on February 15, 2008. Go to the bottom of the page, click on "Comments" and fill out the form. For what it is worth, my comments follow: The angler survey recently completed in Minnesota indicates that there are over 125,000 muskie fisherpeople in Minnesota. This number has grown dramatically in the past few years. The long range plan calls for 8 new muskie lakes over the next 20 years. I can't make these two facts square up. There are more muskie anglers than ever before and this number will continue to increase, all the while anglers in total have been declining. We need more lakes. We need more resources and more money allocated to muskie efforts. The survey indicates that resources as they currently are allocated are skewed away from muskies as a percentage of total resources, compared to the survey results. Please take a minute and comment.

Thanks for posting this and I encourage everyone to leave a comment. My comments: As someone who enjoys fishing muskies all over MN and someone who is also responsible for stocking and conversation in other states, I believe you need to much more aggressively introduce muskies into more of your lakes each year. You have so many quality lakes of all sizes to consider in MN you could easily start introducing muskies to five or ten lakes per year with the goal of 100 or more new musky lakes over 20 years.

Posts: 785 | A small word of caution, I placed my comments on the website and believe all should but... Do not place a comment until you have read the plan. Second state the improvements you'd like to see made, but take some time to thank them for the possitive things they have done (48" length limits, or other lakes they have done well with, etc.). I've found the DNR and fisheries seem to want to invest more in the musky program when they get some possitive feed back.

Posts: 299 Location: Nowheresville, MN | I encourage all to take two minutes and comment. All of the submitted comments do get read and are brought into the planning meetings. A few well written sentences do look better than short one-liners. Good advice skunk.

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | I just got word that there are equal numbers of comments for as there are against for this plan right now. There have only been 200 total comments on this plan so every one's comment counts! Remember, be POSITIVE and complementary of where we have come from, where we are and where we want to go. -Shawn

Posts: 2378 | The anti-muskie guys are working on drumming up support too, so we need all the help we can get. From Lyback's on Mille Lacs... “For you ice fishermen that have been out there this year and don't like what you've seen with all the Muskies under the ice and in traditional Walleye areas, there is a place you can put your two cents in. On the DNR website is an address you can express your opinion on. It is..... http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/input/mgmtplans/muskie_pike/comment.html

Posts: 357 Location: Long Prairie, Minnesota | I also believe that today (the 15th) is the last day that you can post your comments on the website. As stated in the above previous posts, every single comment helps. The MNDNR needs as many "Atta boys" as they can get for developing their long range program and it is up to us to give it to them. If you don't speak up now, don't speak up later on down the road when things are going to hell in a hand basket!

Posts: 8787 | Is this ok??? "MN has become a very popular destination for trophy muskie fishing among local anglers as well as those from WI, IL, IN, and a host of other areas. As you may know, muskie anglers will go to great lengths for an opportunity like this/ I can't begin to emhasize how great it is having a trophy Muskie destination right next door in MN that rivals those in Northwest Ontario. In a very short time, the popularity of the MN fisheries has increased to a level beyond what any of us could have expected, and I believe that popularity will continue to grow in the future. In my opinion, forward thinking management strategies and expansion of the muskies range are essential to the future success of the MN muskie fisheries. The proposed legislation is a giant step in the right direction. I've read the proposal, and you have my full support."
