| We like tinkering and winter is here. Last year my friend brought his daughter fishing and tried several different rigs. We even modified some to work better. The thought came to mind: Can't be too difficult to make our own.
What would you want in a rig? |

Location: Northern Wisconsin | Good components and simple. I don't like all the extra hardware (clevis, beads, etc). The Stealth Hanson rig is my favorite: two trebles, small hook for sucker, and some wire/solid rings/ swivel. |

Location: New Berlin,Wisconsin,53151 | Some of the goofy stuff gets bit over the stealth, but I use 150lb Flora to 2 trebles from a split ring and small lip hook. Then connect it all to some wire and swivel. |

| X2 on the Stealth tackle Hanson Rig, I like how easy it is to use, comes with its own weight, is a all wire rig, not a lot of bulky hardware and it hooks fish better than anything else I've used. I use the 2 hook model also. |

| The more wire and hooks and rubberbands and hardware you use, the less I like them. Two hooks is fine on a very large sucker. I've experimented for years with various rigs, and the best one I've seen is the simple one Mike B described above.
When the leader material gets all mangled, you cut the hook and the swivel off and tie another one. The only thing I'd add to that is that I fold the tag end over and shrink wrap the tied ends around the hook and the swivel. |

Those catching pigs in the fall and then the purists! We certainly don't need more meat fisherman catching all the muskies. Preach the lure gospel! I'd rather catch a muskie by any method then claim some goofy high ground by making a difficult sport impossible and tossing lures but that's just me. More muskies for the rest of us and more importantly more suckers. |

| There is clearly an overlap season in SE Wisconsin (usually known as October) where some of the guys are still 100% casting and some 100% suckers. Most guys ( me included ) will each cast a lure and share one or two dragged suckers. Honestly, I'd say it's my favorite time on the water. Then, there is NOW, (November) with all the water turning hard or already hard and water temps way down in the 30's. My experience with these temps is that you can cast your artificial baits or (if you're my age) try to take a leak out there, and you are going to have the same lousy resut with both. I'll grant that you have to develop a taste for sucker fishing, and it's not for everybody (like trolling,) but it's an arrow in the quiver for my musky bow, I'd sure hate to give up. It's a great tool and far more skill than many think. |
