I am not expert by any means when it comes to reel mechanics but I will try to describe this the best that i can...

Yesterday when I was fishing, the gear on my my NaCl 61 kept on slipping while I was reeling. I would be cranking and occasionally the reel would make a clicking sound while the handle turned and the level wind and spool would disengage and would re-engage after a few handle cranks or so.

Has anyone else had this issue with there toros and know what is causing this?

you use the power handle? if so, the slots where the pinion gear mates to the spool are worn out from the reel engaging mid cast. if that area is worn, you need to replace the main and pinion gears. parts usually run about 60 bucks to change gears.

Does it do it every time? If not, try engaging the freespool fully and re-engaing the reel again. At times the reel may not engage fully. If it does that on every cast, send it back to Abu for service. They may (should?) fix it under warranty. from S WI it takes them about a week to get me my reel back from being serviced. .

It doesn't do it every time, but it is starting to occur more frequently. As Ryan suggested, i do use the power handle and from time to time do hear that god-awful grinding noise when I engage it mid cast. I would imagine it is the pinion gears being worn out

I would say the spool pin is bent and or the pinion gear slots are rounded ?????

I wouldn't say that it was worn out. I would say you broke that gear from engaging the reel mid-cast. Maybe you should place your left hand in your pocket when you cast. That should help your reel last longer.
