Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I bought my first flasher the other day. How many of you add a 2nd hook, and/or upsize the rear treble? It seems like a lot of body length for one smaller rear hook, but maybe it's not an issue. Curious about what others do.

Posts: 2089 | Add a 4/0 or 5/0 Eagle Claw 774 above the first tie of marabou and add a 5/0 774 to the rear and shrink tube it.

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Hey curleytail if you use a reel that allows you to have the rod in your dominate you can easily set the hook by pulling the bait through and getting it with the rear hook. Its not like rubber or soft wood where they can hang onto it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | I've never added a 2nd hook to mine, never really had a reason to. Only fish I've ever lost on one was a jump/throw right after the hookset. One of my most reliable baits from the hook-up to net. Fast action rods help too ![]()

Posts: 345 Location: Poynette WI. | I build a similar bait and never add a second hook to mine either, i also use a 5/0 trebile shrinked tube on the back. The maraboo really pulsates on top and i do not like the hook in the way of the action. I havent noticed a problem setting hooks yet. I do know others who will add a 4/0 up front though sometimes. When others ask me about only having one hook, i have them grabbed around the skirt with one finger and thumb and slide them down. Then bottom portion of the skirt/lure is so soft and thinner allowing for the hook to really dig in.

Posts: 865 | The ones I have ALL came with a second hook already....They stopped putting on the second hook years ago....It was a great tail with the two hooks ..My favorite bucktail to this day.....Black w/ silver and hammered nickle blades

Posts: 8814 | I've added hooks to some as others have described. Hasn't made any difference that I can see except that they get trashed much sooner from being bent right in the center where the second hook is, and it makes a lot more work unhooking your fish. It's been one of my best hooking baits even with only one treble.

Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | I prefer the single hook over the older 2 hook style. The flashabou and marabou would get hopelessly tangled on that hook, and you'd have to cut half the stuff off to untangle it. The black with silver and hammered nickle is my favorite too.

Posts: 2089 | Before the Dubba 10's arrival on the scene , this was my go-to bait for fishing Mille Lacs at night. There were a few modifications though. The above mentioned hook mods and, believe it or not.....I'd cut off one of the blades. Black with a single, smooth nickel blade. Absolute money!! A different vibration than the double blades. It thumped!

Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | the second hook can make a big difference....I have added them and caught quite a few fish with only that hook in their mouth, including big ones. I also feel it helps quite a bit to either put rubber tubing or duct tape on the bottom hook. I also always change the hook that the bait coms with, I do not like whatever style of hook that is and have had much better success with others. Every little detail can help especially when they are in short strike mode
