| Sorry if been answered (I could not necessarily find the answer)
I am using a mh 7'6 rod for my mepps size buck tail (i.e. 5 blades) and will be also using for my 6 & 8 blades and smaller cranks/jerks.
I currently have a Revo Toro Winch on it, but moving that to my xh rod for 10's
What is recommend for the the smaller stuff, the 5 6 & 8 blade? I was leaning to the lexa 400, but that may be too big - I want someting (i think) in the 6:1 range.

Location: Hayward, WI | I think just about anything you like that is the speed you like. Blades of that size aren't too taxing on angler or equipment. If you like your winch, another Revo in the higher ratio would suit you well.
In my opinion, the 400 Lexa is overkill (in weight) for baits that size, though it would certainly handle them with no problems. |

Location: Poynette WI. | I like using the curado 300ej myself, especially for anything under double 8's, great for small jerkbaits ect. and line pick up! You could probably find something a little cheaper that would work just fine, depending on budget or amount of use. |

Also a good choice! I have one of these and it works great for anything 8s and smaller |

| Thanks for all the suggestions....i am leaning to getting just another Revo Toro Winch. Although the gear ratio is low, I love my other one.....thanks

Location: Hayward, WI | It's up to you of course, but you might want to second guess the winch in favor of the Toro in a 5.4 or 6.3 ratio. I have the 5.4 ratio, and pulling 10's at moderate speeds is easy. With 5-8 blades you won't even know if they are spinning!
The only reason to get the Winch in this small blade scenario is if you are trying to force yourself to slow down. |

Location: Minneapolis, MN | I would say one of the biggest factors is going to be how much you are looking to spend on the reel itself. At the high end you have a Calcutta 400D with 300D gears, and on the low end you have a plethora of used reels. You could also use a Calcutta 400B, a Lexa 300, an Abu Garcia NACL or Revo Toro, or any of the other reels listed. Since you don’t really need cranking power, you have a lot more options. |

| Dangit! too many suggestion, all of them great! The lexa 300 is tempting and I have never tried a calcutta.
I always buy abu garcia....these decisions are hard.... |

| I just ordered a lexa 300hl, for smaller blades/swimbaits/spinnerbaits/topwater/all the light stuff, can't wait to try it on the water, the reel was a pleasure to palm, when i tried to play a bit with the one i had access to. |

The Lews has no Pawl for the AR Bearing and line cap is not great, that is why I like the 200 or 300 EXO reels from Quantum both have a Dual Pawl backup for the AR Bearing, the 200 will hold 150yds of 65 braid and the 300 will hold 175 yds of 80 braid. Both are 7oz reels built like little tanks.
Team one of them up with any Bass Swimbait rod like a Okuma C3x-C-7111H or in XH and U got a combo that is FUN and can bring in any size Musky or Pike Fast and safe. I must have 6 of the EXO reels, watch Ebay they sell for NIB under $150.00 |

Location: Poynette WI. | My friend picked up a exo 300 this year and I had an opportunity to use it and it is very light, but worked very well. It was his first musky reel and i was pushing him to pick up a reel that I knew more about and he is a quantum guy he said so he went and picked it up anyways. Turned out to be a great reel and he's able to use it for bass as well as musky. I've also been seeing some great deals popping up on The EXO for under 200$ brand new floating around on a few other social sites. |

| I loved using the smaller EXO 200 6.6:1 for those sized lures - especially paired with a 7'6" heavy bass-ish rod. It was my "break from the big stuff" setup, and worked great. |

Thanks for the info.. Am not a reel expert, but doesn't the pawl sort of act as a 'back up' anti reverse? If your main AR goes out, wouldn't you want to service the reel anyway? I guess to reword my original question- If using shorter casts, could I get away with using the Lews Tournament Pro I already own for small mepps etc or is this strictly a no no and not going to work, keep that on the bass rod it currently is on and make due with my other musky gear and eventually get a dedicated combo for light musky duty? |

If you want use the Lews, keep your thumb on the spool for ripping and for hook sets. |
