Posts: 29 | Im getting ready to build a turner that will handle 8 baits 6"-8" long, I have few questions as to what to use and how to build it. I build mostly flat sided glide baits so do I need to make the turner so it is turning the bait length wise? And is a standard grill rotisserie the best to start from? Thinking of using carburetor springs or such to secure the baits to the fixture. Pictures or ideas much appreciated. Thanks

for small baits I use a Ronco food rotisserie (as seen on TV). It has a built in 4 hour max timer. It can only hold 4-5 baits though and they spin horizontal. It will run without heat that would normally cook chickens and such. was a $20 Craigslist buy and no work to build. I also secure with zip ties. If you had 2-3 of those, you would be in business out of the gate. mine has held up for a couple years and still running.

Posts: 791 Location: WI | I built this one a few years ago. Not the prettiest but after a thousand or so baits it's still going strong. It has a rotisserie motor and a lazy Susan bearing on the other end. You can't see from pics but I added another spline so I can attach another frame and double my capacity from 8 to 16. I installed a Christmas light timer on it so that I can set it for 5 hours and it shuts off Attachments ---------------- image.jpg (52KB - 324 downloads) image.jpg (41KB - 248 downloads) image.jpg (61KB - 236 downloads) image.jpg (49KB - 265 downloads)

Posts: 994 Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | I used a spring from a screen door and just cut it into sections. Then I used the large size paperclips and bend into hook shapes. Works like a champ & cheap. Kodiak, let's see your MONSTER

No controller needed. It's an AC motor and at 7rpm, should be perfect.. Gonna wire to switch then off to wall via extension cord. I have a nice timer left over from my large aquarium days that ill add. I'll post pics when built. Couple weeks (hopefully).

Posts: 235 | I have 2 drying racks that I use. Both use the same type small motor. One holds 16 baits and one holds 21. I have done 21 of my 11 inch all at one time. The trick is to be balanced and evenly spaced. My drying wheel is like a Ferris wheel and it rotates end over end. I have a holder with a nail in it and when the clearcoating is done I epoxy the tail eyescrew in last. I have been using these racks for about 14 years now with the same motors. I will get a photo and post it soon. Cost to build, $10.00 with holders and the motors were free.

Posts: 235 | I will attempt to show you one of my drying racks. They are both very similar except one has even bait holders and one has odd bait holders. The main thing on either one is balancing the load. When you are coating a lure you will need to have an extra bait to take its place so the balance is maintained. If not the little motor can't handle the load and won't rotate. This works well for the average guy unless your doing a lot of baits. First of the motor, its a motor off of a Microwave turntable. Make sure its a 110 volt motor. There are lots and lots of different voltages available for turntables. I just drilled a hole through a 1" thick piece of hardwood for the shaft to go through. The motor mounts on the back side with the on/off switch. Put the shaft for the wheel through the hole and attach your wheel. Grease the shaft lightly before inserting. The adaptor for the motor and the drying wheel needs to be drilled for the size of the motor and the drying wheel shaft size. For the wheel, you can go any size you want as long as the spacing for the holders is even. I took a square block and divided it into 16 spaces and cut it out with the bandsaw. You can measure around the wheel and divide the measurement by whatever number of holders you want. The wheel is held onto the drive shaft with a wingnut. I put the wheel mounting hole onto the drive shaft and then put it on my drill press to drill the holes accurately. I used pvc 1/2 " ID end caps and put them in the holes on the drying wheel. I then screwed them offset so they don't turn. I made holdrer for the baits out of PVC 1/2" OD which fit snug in the end caps. On the bait holding end I lightly taper a 1" long piece of 1/2" dowel and drive it inside the PVC. Be sure to use caution as they drive in hard. I then drive in a finish nail about 3/4" and belt grind off the head. You now have a drying rack ready to use. Its quite EZ to make but not so EZ to explain. If you have any questions please feel free to email me or PM me. Hopefully this will work for a lot of you guys that aren't big time. Thank You I have a few pictures and maybe that will help. As you can see, 21 of those Monster MuskieBurgers is quite a load for such a little motor but it works great. heres my hold down setup for my build in progress turner. Small harbor freight vise grips. remove thumb screw, add threaded rod and wing nut. The T-nuts as they were called will be mounted to the turner frame (pictured in the wood block for reference). cost was about $5 each for this type of clamp system.
