The Beast look like it is much better equiped to handle muskie lures than the current reel I have. Why would this be any less adequate than that reel? I use it a lot, not just a few trips a summer. Granted, not as much as a guide would, but I doubt very much I will be disappointed. I think what Pikemaster is trying to get at is that your current reel is indeed adequate for muskies.. The 'TORO' line is bigger and well suited for muskies.. However, the 'Revo Beast' is NOT a musky reel. It is significantly smaller than the reel you have, is not built as heavy, and the reel capacity is significantly less than your current reel. It may work for smaller bucktails and whatnot, but I think he is just politely warning you that it is not a big musky reel, and likely not what you are expecting.. it's a smaller (though well built) bass size reel. Abu is supposedly coming out with a new musky reel at next years ICast, but this isn't it. This reel is for Big Bass Baits, I'm sure it has a disengaging levelwind system, not the best for heavy braid, and with no Anti Reverse Pawl the AR Bearing will not take ripping large baits like Mag Dawgs very long without failing. Plus you should use 80 or 100LB test line for Musky fishing and this reel will not hold alot of that test line. The gears in this reel is 7.1:1 gears so it will have speed but no power to bring in high resistance baits or no power to fight a large fish. this a great reel for BIG BASS BAITS but not for Large Musky Baits. ABU is coming out with a new reel at ICAST next year from what I have heard, also Shimano may have a new reel also. If you want a low profile reel for Musky look at the Quantum EXO 300 in 5.3:1 gears, the reel is only 7oz and comes with a power handle, a large spool for 80 or 100lb braid, Dual AR Pawls, very large Brass gearing. Comes in 5,6,and a 7 gears.

Posts: 1000 | The bass market is big enough and profitable enough that it has reels designed specifically for it. The Beast is to bass fishing what the Tranx is to redfish/light salt. They don't build muskie reels, but shimano did go as far as to do a muskie video with the Tranx, so we're at least on the radar.

Posts: 241 | Just got the new 2015 Saltwater Angler catalog from Bass Pro Shops. Nothing new in there that rivals a Tranx. You think if Abu Garcia was coming out with something new it would have made that catalog. Those Marketing Departments are really keeping us off balance. Backdraft

Since when doesn't Shimano make a musky reel ? I have been using Shimano reel's for the last 15 years . I'm not going to argue that shimano makes fantastic muskie reels. I love my Tranx PG and Curado 300E. What I'm saying is that muskie anglers are not a big enough market for Shimano to bust out the drawing board and ask "what would make an epic double 10 reel for muskie anglers?" in the way that Abu Garcia designed a reel specifically for bass anglers who wanted to throw "big" baits. The bass and redfish markets are big enough and profitable enough to have reels designed specifically for them. Muskie reels are generally designed with light salt anglers in mind. We adapt them to our style.

Posts: 72 | I fished the Revo Beast for nearly 2 month now for pike and I can say its a very nice reel. I have a Toro NaCl 51 as well and I think there is very little difference in the power between those reels. The levelwind is disengaging so it is not perfect for big baits but I have it on a custom made downsizer and it can handle everything what the downsizer is made for. Absolutely perfect for palming because of its size. Personally I would not use it for lures heavier than 5 oz but for everything lighter its a pleasure to fish. I have a 60 pound daiwa 8 braid on it which is enought for me for small baits. I has a Backup Pawl so that should not be an issue.

Posts: 760 | The Revo Beast is the perfect combo for a muskie angler's needs? Huh?? Sooo, if I decide to throw hard pulling baits like tens, big lipped crankbaits, or spinnerbaits, the Beast is the reel to use? No, thanks. A high geared ratio reel like that will not last to long fishing musky baits like that. I'll take my 4.1 7000's or a Toro Winch. It's already been stated, the Beast is a BASS REEL! Being a life long Abu guy, I can't wait to see the new MUSKY REEL that's coming out next year. Kdawg.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | I would look at the ABU NaCI Toro in the 50 series over the Beast, I have seen the Toro 50 for $150.00 and under where as the Beast is $350.00 The Toro 50 is a Great Musky reel, non-disengaging level wind system, pawl for the AR Bearing, comes in 4, 5, and 6 gears.

Posts: 72 | Like I said I have both the beast and a Toro Nacl 51 5.4 gear ratio. If you are into smaller baits that dont pull too hard. You can take the beast with no worries in my opinion. If you want to pull double tens, or big deep diving cranks or 10 oz swimbaits this reel is not what you are looking for. Dont be fooled by the little size this baby can take some punishment.

Posts: 72 | I think its the same size as a Big Shooter Compact or a Revo Inshore. Palms like a bass reel just perfect. There are 3 things that the Beast can do better than the NaCl in my opinion. 1. If you fish light lures (1-3 oz) often. The disengaging Levelwind allows to cast light lures a lot better than with the nacl. Good casting starts at 1/2 oz. 2. The reel is nicer to palm. 3. You can always use it on a walleye or normal bass rod if you like to because its soo small. The NaCl is definitly the more versatile musky reel. It can handle medium to big size lures better because of the synchronised levelwind. It is supplied with a power handle for hard pulling lures. It has a lot more line capacity if you use heavy line. And its cheaper. I really like the Beast for my downsizer thats the kind of rod I can recommend it for. For heavier rod I take my NaCl.

Nobody is supposed to really talk about these specifics but when I said it is the perfect combination of all things I was referring to the new one coming out this next year. The Revo beast is in fact a bass reel.

It just amazes me however how so many believe they need to have 200 yards of line on a reel or its just not suited. If you are trolling regularly and put out half your line maybe? I received the Beast, and yes it's small. But several casts in the yard so far, I love it. It holds plenty of line. It's built more stout it seems than my Toro. Plus, being smaller it makes for better fit in the hand for a long day casting. It's very much a solid reel in the small form factor. Time will tell the longevity.

I'm sorry but I have to say this, this reel is not built more stout then a TORO !!!! Last year I must have Detailed, Tuned and Relube over 200 Toro reels in my shop and I know how they are built, so this is where I'm coming from. I just don't want someone to go out and spend $350.00 and get a 7.1:1 gear Bass reel and think it will work and hold up for Musky fishing. Like I said before the Beast is a Great reel for Bass fishing, that can be used for Musky baits under 3oz that have no pull what so ever. The reason you want a reel to hold as much line as possible is when you are casting, after you cast if the spool is almost empty your line pickup drops almost in half. Good luck with your reel, send it to me after a year or so to get a Detail, Tune and Relube.
