My dad is talking about going on another bear hunt and I thought why not kill to two birds with one stone. Does anyone know of some place that has offers good bear hunts as well as muskie. Would be bringing own boat. Thanks

If you consider baiting the bears with 5 gallon buckets of donuts and pancakes, and then stacking logs on the bucket to slow them down on shooting days a "good" hunt, then there are several resorts in Ontario that offer them, as well as good fishing.

I can see you are an expert on bear hunting, same type of guy that would barbless hooks so it doesn't cause as much pain to the fish

Thaddeus Lake Lodge. They specialize in bow hunts for bear, but I'm sure they use guns as well.

I'm sorry... have we met?

Forgive me, but the bear hunts I've seen from some of these lodges that focus mainly on fishing wouldn't be very rewarding to me. I thought that might be valid information for someone considering a muskie/bear combo, I wasn't blasting bear hunters.

Ballards Black Island does exactly this. Located out of Morson with some insanely good musky action and quite a healty bear population.

Correct me if I am wrong but don't you have to apply for a bear tag in advance?

Sorry haven't met. I apologize. I was drinking. When fellow outdoors men write about stacking logs to slow them down a good hunt, it appears they are bashing baiting. But many off these same hunters have no problem shooting pheasants over pointers or ducks over decoys. Baiting is no more of an advantage than using a call to bring in a turkey. All the same and in the end I don't know what I am saying..... Half drunk again b/c the muskies bite is off so nothing else to do except get drunk

If a bear comes into a bait, I would say that greater than 90% of the time, he knows someone is there and he or she makes a choice. You also could bait all day, everyday and see nothing. People use musky lures to catch musky, men use cologne and wild boar mounts(personal account) to lure women, so in the end, we are all using bait to catch something!

I don't think it would be to much fun, e.g., mounting a wild boar....just saying!

Have fun!

This forum is the best! I'm not going to suggest mounting any wild boar that still has a heartbeat, unless you want to videotape it! Untrue luring recommendation on the boar, my wife thinks it's hideous, so just stick to cologne.

I believe that bear hunting is a worthwhile sport- valuable to the quality and the health of the resource, entertaining, financially lucrative for the outfitter and state. I would suggest however, that "pheasants over pointers" and "ducks over decoys" and "turkey" with a "call" are all extremely poor equivalents for you to make to the standard practice of baiting bear- even if you were boiled.
I would suggest shooting pheasants over a pile of shucked sweet corn, ducks over corn and rice spread in a field, and turkey enticed to a pile of freshly husked acorns and sweet corn are more accurate comparisons to baiting bears. It would be like chumming the waters with wounded suckers to entice muskies, walleyes and northerns. Realizing that local bear pops in Canada need to be thinned and that bear baiting is legal in Ontario, making the comparison that the practice is the same as decoying birds and using a dog to retrieve game doesn't make sense, even if you were toasted.

I personally do not understand the killing of a bear, but I bet a nice snap shot of you with a bear and a muskie would make a lovely Christmas card photo. Please kill the stupid fish and lay it across the carcass of the somewhat "intelligent" animal with eyelashes to make it memory to last forever!!

I kind of want to eat a 5 gallon bucket of donuts and pancakes.

Just sayin.

I've baited bear stands a few times, often I've baited and not 5 minutes later there's a muskie fisherman in the bait pile.
We discovered that throwing some lettuce or broccoli in with the candy corn and donuts will keep the muskie fisherman away.
