Location: Northern New Jersey | Hey guys,
Looking to pick up a lexa 300 or something else in the 160$ range. I am tornas to which gear to get though. I don't throw many huge baits, but still wanna be able to chuck ten's with it once in a while. Mostly into throwing tubes/jerkbaits/spinnerbaits. Any input would be appreciated. |

| Small world I'm also from Northern New Jersey....Oakland The 5/1 Is a nice powerful little gear ratio and it can be used for Double 10,s or just about anything else you ask of it. Were the faster 6/1 is a little more restricted, the 5/1 is a lot easier to reel in than the 6/1 with the larger blades. Had both really liked the 5/1 sold the other. |

Location: Northern New Jersey | Cool, thanks. I was just worried about the 5.1 with only 22 IPT. Power handle or paddles? Or personal preference? |

Location: NE PA | how about the komodo if you decide to go 6.3. it's in your range and seems to be a bit more stout than the 6.1 lexa.

| I have the 7.x and my buddy has the 6.1. Using them side by side there isn't a huge difference in feel (speed wise), the main difference is paddle handle vs power handle. I was nervous when I ordered the 7.1 because I do like bucktails quite a bit and I wasn't sure if the ratio was too high. I can bring in 8's pretty quick for an extended period of time with no fatigue. I can throw 10's for quite some time with little discomfort but it is a pretty slow retrieval. I tried the 6.1 with 8's and it was definitely easier, I did not have a chance to try 10's.
It probably depends on what you want to do with your 10's (normal speed or burning). If I were you I would try to find someone near you that has the gear ratio you are looking for and try it out. If I were to get a reel for 10's it would be the 5.1. An all around reel- definitely the 6.1 or 7.1. Next season I plan on getting a lexa 400 |
