I and two friends are headed up to the Chip Flowage and staying near the town of Siren WI. We have never fished any lakes up there for muskies, just Yellow lake for walleye and crappies in the past. We are intending to target muskies for a few days and are curious what would be the easier option as to learning new waters, either focus on surrounding lakes or the flowage.

Here is what I know of the flowage (very little)... Hit the weedy bays, obvious structure like points, weed beds, mid lake humps and try to key in on their current location with "search" baits. Then continue to focus on one main structure type once identified.

Any information on lakes to try or locations on the flowage (generalizations as its so large) would be extremely helpful. We aren't necessarily looking for numbers or giants, something in the middle and to enjoy time on the water with friends.

Thanks!

find the channel and fish the channel turns especially stun fields that are in channel turns. i have no experience on the chip but fish the wisconsin river flowage and have gotten the best results this way. good luck … i've fished yellow for muskies in the past too and that's worth a shot since you know it.

Thanks for the replies guys. We are still up in the air as to hit the Chip or something closer to Siren like Yellow. We have 9 days to figure it out so if anyone has any hot tips or just general advice between then and now I would appreciate any help you can. I will be sure to report back after our trip as to what we caught and where we were...
Happy holiday weekend to all!

Yellow is a very different fishing experience than the Chip. I have had good days on both. The Chip has a ton of different structure and has more of a wilderness feel. Yellow has 5-10ft weedline that goes around most of the lake. There are some giants in there, but I wouldn't say it's a numbers lake by any means.

I would also suggest fishing the Holcombe Flowage since you will be in the area. Get out there early though because boat traffic is high on weekdays and holidays. B

I figured I should report back and let everyone know how we did... We ended up fishing around the Hayward area and found the fish to be active but not hitting baits real well... A lot of follows and nipping at baits but managed to land two fish. Both fish were taken by Suicide Baits (Bucktails) and others were missed on both topwater and rubber but only blades sealed the deal. I will post the pictures but ignore the nasty facial hair and lack of a tan. Guys weekend always requires a nasty beard and typically gets trimmed each day. I will say we are all lucky there are no pictures of the mustache I sported on Sunday...

Go to Big Sissibagama near Stone Lake. We saw some action there (and a nice bonus pike) Friday night. Had Steve Genson show us the ropes on there and Whitefish. If you can lock him down, I HIGHLY recommend him 715-558-3709

Make sure to hit the China House restaurant in Spooner. Easily one of the best chinese places I've been to in a long time. It's in a sketchy part of town so you know its legit lol
