I just bought a boat with an HDS7 Gen 2 mounted on the console and would like to move it to the bow and get an HDS8 for the dash. I'd also like to network the two units and have side imaging at the console. Unfortunately my background is with Birds and I don't know what I need. There is already a transducer on the transom and the trolling motor has one as well, so I'm guessing I can order the unit without the transducer. Also, do I have to run both the traditional transducer and the side imaging one on the transom? What all am I going to need to make this happen? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Adam

I have HDS-9 touches on the front and console networked together via the Ethernet cable that Lowrance has. Pretty simple actually.

You'll need the LSS-2 side scan and the regular transducer for the one on the dash, and you can connect the front one directly to your trolling motor transducer.

Sounds like you won't need to buy the one with the transducer unless the HDS 8 doesn't use the same type of transducer as the 7. Don't think it changes though.

Yes, you can order an HDS unit without a transducer. All HDS units use the same transducers.
