Just out of curiosity, but wondering what the top end potential is on LOTW. Seems like you see a lot of low 50's and I think the biggest I've seen is a 55, but what's the biggest you've heard of?

You will get answers from the mid 50's to 60".
Some one also will claim to have seen a 60+ that almost ate their boat it was so big.

She turned around about 30' from the boat, but she was huge. I've seen fish in the 54" class. This one seemed much longer. Tough to put a number on other than HUGE.

I would like to ask Larry Anderson (Center Island South Resort) that question. I have caught a couple super tankers and seen three other's.

im fairly certain OP meant ''see'' in the context that people post pictures of quite a few fish that are in the low 50s, not that they are stacked all over the lake lol

OP,

i would say that mid to upper 50s isnt unheard of, and it may be possible that there are some even larger open water fish which will likely never see a bait..

Lennyg3 - that's correct. What I meant by "see" is pictures of fish caught. I was wondering about confirmed catches, not what people have seen following their lure.

The Biggest one i seen is a picture at our camp from the late 80's. Was caught before opener and was 58inch, 58Lbs. Caught on a sucker pike fishing. Fish is GINORMOUS.

Biggest fish from LOTW in my boat, 54" -- 40# even on a certified scale I netted the fish and it was mounted. The biggest fish I know of out the Woods , was 56" caught released in 2011.

biggest in my boat has been a 53", haven't seen one I can confidently say was for sure bigger then that except for one....I can only guess how big it was but it was something special like I have never seen in many years of doing this on quality lakes.

There seems to be very, very few fish caught 55" and up per year from what I know...saw a legitimate picture of one on a Minnesota site a few years back that was either 57 or 58,but it was one of those extremely skinny fish with big heads that was clearly on the downside of its life

If it's the same fish I'm thinking of then I believe it was 58" and caught on walleye gear in the WFB area.

I was with Brian Major, and had a follow of what he called the second biggest fish he'd ever seen.

Mid 50's easily.

I've never seen anything bigger than 52" on LOTW. Have yet to run into a tanker up there. However, for pure enjoyment, it's a tough lake to beat.

There are some big fish in the lake! In my boat on LOTW-we've have fish up to 54" and several others just shy of 53" but every once in a while you see one that takes your breath away. I know several were at least 55" but who knows how long till you measure them

Silver dollar eyes.......yellow in color and stopped the blade of the bucktail when she oped her mouth.....2' behind the bait. Scary big and I've touched a couple nice ones over the years. Had to sit down and think I smoked 5 Marlboros in 10 minutes. Not more than 30 yards from a resort dock outta Nestor. Hmmmmm......

There's obviously a reason the MNR has the lakes set at 54" limit. They just don't get much bigger than that. Essentially for those of us that have 54's to our name...we are searching for the genetic freaks (AKA the "Yao Ming" of the muskie population). They ARE out there, just very few and far between.

I'll be the first to admit that I took a "defeatist" attitude when I got my 54" and even said "I have to accept that this may be the high water mark of my Musky 'career'. But you know what, that aint so bad." Of course, the next year, I did actually hook into a bigger fish, but lost it. Granted, this was not on LOTW, but I have fished LOTW and know many that do...there are MONSTERS in there no doubt. My personal opinion though is that if you are going for a Supertanker...spend your time in Whitefish Bay. Yes, its going to be tough and certainly not "action" water. But if LOTW is ever going to produce a 60lb fish...i truly believe it will come from there...
