| Hey guys, need some input? Got a 94 evinrude 150. Borrowed it out today, ran fine last 3 days, he used it, ran across the lake, fished, started it back up, and when he shifts, it just revs, no propulsion. Prop is there, had him jimmy back and forth between reverse and drive, same thing both ways. Sounds like a throtle cable issue, but not sure if its in shifter or motor end. any ideas or input would be helpful please. Thanks!!

I would start with the most obvious first...the cables as they run into the motor. you should see where there are 2 cables that come into the motor...one for the throttle, and one for the shift. When you engage for shifting, you should see one move. If it doesn't move, the issue is either A) up in the throttle control lever (possibly popped out of its position for use) or B) cable broke somewhere along the line.
If all of this is working fine, the next issue I would check would be the shift linkage down to the motor. you should be able to see where the linkage moves inside the cover, but if you cannot, there should be a small portion of the shift rod exposed around the front midsection of the motor. Have someone move the lever into gear as you watch that rod. If the rod does not move up, down, or spin, the issue will be the linkage at the bottom side of the engine where the shift rod connects to the linkage inside the motor housing (lower cowling area front and center of the motor).
If all of this is working, but still no go, I believe the issue will be in the lower unit itself... that goes beyond what I can help with at that point... I've not gotten that far into a tear down...
Hoping it is not at the lower unit....
