Posts: 411 Location: Waconia,MN | I recently got a saltiest and I need to spool it up. Does 100lb really make that big of a difference reducing the chance of a backlash?

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I don't have a lot of time on mine yet but I bought one this year and threw a Cowgirl around on it for a while without a backlash. I have 80lb Cortland Masterbraid on mine. No spool brakes just means (for me) thumbing the spool with more pressure, especially going into the wind. I was surprised that even with increased thumb pressure on the spool, casting distance still seemed to be quite good. So far for me, no problems with 80lb. I haven't used it yet on a day where the wind is really howling so we'll see if those days change my mind. Tucker

Posts: 558 | If you have the 20 size i would go with 80, but 30 or 40 i would throw 100 on it.

Location: Minneapolis | I'd say 100 just because it is a larger spool

Posts: 1451 Location: Kronenwetter, WI | Hired Luke ronnestrand and was throwing 80 on my saltist in windy conditions....after I snapped off my second double 10 and watched it sail through the air trailing a length of 80lb, he looked at me and said, that's why I only use 100lb pp. been running it ever since with no breakage.

Posts: 349 | TC MUSKIE - 5/31/2014 12:15 PM I'd say 100 just because it is a larger spool The size 20 has a relatively small spool... Especially if only going 3/4 full life most do for better casting. I agree with 80 lb for a size 20, 100 lb if you have a 30.

I switched to 100lb last year after the year before loosing a lure, and another time loosing a lure and a fish. When I do get backlashes They are always easier to get out with the 100lb as well.
