My wife's boat is stored outside in the winter upside down on bunks. We get algae growing in the carpet on the front of the boat. Does any one know how to get it out or a product to use that wouldn't discolor of ruin the carpet. The color is charcoal grey and it is on the front deck of a Tuffy Resort.

Housewash with a pressure washer. Don`t get too close.

It sounds like mildew, not algae. The mildew may stain the carpet regardless of what you use to treat it, by damaging the fibers. Pressure washing will remove the mildew, but won't kill the mildew in the fibers. I've done this on outdoor carpet before. Remove the mildew as much as possible with a damp towel, clean the stain with water and laundry detergent, rinse, and then dry. Be careful to not spead the stain, work inwards. A wetvac helps with the cleanup. Apply hydrogen peroxide and work it into the area. Then work in some ammonia to the carpet, this will help remove any stain and hopefully kill the mildew. The mildew may have worked it's way under the carpet. If that's the case you will have to take out the carpet and clean underneath that too, or it will come back eventually. Find a different place to store it next year, away from moisture on the ground, or get it higher off the ground so air can circulate before the snow falls.

Marine carpet is extremely resistant to fading/discoloring. Bleach will not even take the color out. Bleach is not recommended for cleaning though(could break down the latex that holds the carpet together). I would order a product called milgo. You spray it on let it sit then steam clean the carpet with a rug doctor or similar machine. Or you could spray it on and pressure wash it out.
