| I have a Garmin GPS76map and I love it. I have the Fishing Hot Spots cd as well as the U.S. Topo cd's. Keep in mind that with the Hot Spots cd, you pay for only one region and that's all you get. And it is very limited in the number of lakes it covers. All that said, it does come out on the GPS exactly like the FHS paper maps. And yes, it does leave the breadcrumb trail for you to follow. I have the Wisconsin region unlocked and my handheld unit has 8mb of memory. I can fit about 20 lakes on it with that amount of memory. And most of those are large bodies of water like Green Bay, Sturgeon Bay, Winnebago, Big Green, Chequamegon Bay, Chip Flowage, Turtle Flambeau Flowage, etc. I have found the Hotspot maps on my GPS to be very accurate. A couple weekends ago I used a Hotspots map on my GPS to find a hump to walleye fish that was only about 50' X 100' in the wide open middle area of a 3,000 acre lake and it put me right on the top of it as I found out when I drilled my first hole.
The US Topo shows the outline of the lake only, and every single little pond is represented on the map, but no depth contours are shown. I believe the Bluecharts only show the Great Lakes areas, and no inland lakes are on it. |
