Looking for a local New Lenox/Joliet Illinois area to make a few buck tails for me. I have the blades and the prototype which is about wore out from canada last year. Can anyone recommend someone in the area that can tie approx 6 bucktails for me?

If you can't find someone local I'm sure there's other guys out there that you could ship it to them to make for you. If I could find the time I could do it for you.

OR... Another thought would be to youtube making them and see if you can do it yourself. It feels much better to catch em on something you built apposed to something someone built for you.

I agree with making it yourself. If you have the blades and the bait, you should be able to buy weights that match, beads, etc. that match or are close, or just remove that from the wore out one and re use all components possible.

Unless it's really something unique, bucktails are pretty easy to tie, and if your thread wraps aren't beautiful and your wire bends are a little out of round, the fish won't notice.

The trouble with making your own bucktails is not the difficulty in making them. It's how to stop making them!! I used to make 'em and my guide clients would buy them. I didn't realize how many they were buying. As I cut back on guiding I had more bucktails than I needed. Then you have 20 blades left but no wire, so you buy wire, or other components the end result you never really stop making the darn things. Great winter hobby for sure and if you can get a bunch of kids involved in tying them it really sparks their interest. Some of the younger ones are really good at tying too.

I just started to tie my own and I love it. It's much easier than you may think and you can make them exactly how you want them. Give it a try and you'll be hooked.
