Posts: 633 Location: Madison, WI | Thinking about a possible day trip next Saturday the 12th to Pierce lake. What's the ice situation like? Local reservoir is starting to open here so looking for some open water?

Posts: 271 Location: Oregon, WI | Don't know the ice situtation but here's something I found on the IL DNR site: PIERCE LAKE BOAT RAMP WILL BE CLOSED FOR REPLACEMENT The main boat ramp for Pierce Lake, adjacent to The Lone Rock concession, is scheduled to be closed for replacement early spring 2014. Replacement could take up to 2 months and planned to be complete by May 1st. During this period, boaters are instructed to access Pierce Lake from the boat ramp located in the campground. Don't know what the "campground" landing is like so anyone with info please chime in.

Location: Northern Illinois | The fox chain is opening very rapidly. Not sure how close that is to pierce lake.

Posts: 271 Location: Oregon, WI | Fox chain is east of Pierce. Pierce is just outside of Rockford. I fished the fox chain in a tournament a couple of years ago and if memory serves me right, between the "use" fee and launch fee it cost ~$30 just to put the boat in the water for a day. Location: Northern Illinois | Yeah they get you going both ways. Need a chain sticker to operate on the chain and then the launch fee.

Posts: 43 | I live on crystal lake and pierce is about the same size, we still have ice but it will not be there long. the ice starts about 10-12 feet from shore. I figure by Monday I will be on the water. I have fished pierce a number of times and the launch by the campground is nice, just a lot smaller than the main launch. good luck jas

Posts: 267 | I believe it's the same address as the main boat launch at the state park - just over in the campground area.
