I'm heading up there with my folks in mid July. I would love to pick the minds of those who have had success on the West branch. I know it's big water and trophy water so I plan on fishing it that way but would love some insight as to where to begin and how to approach it. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am considering hiring a guide for a day, maybe thats the way to go.

Check out Musky Hunter on youtube, Jim saric has 2 episodes I know of. Most recent was when he stayed at Chaudier Lodge near mouth of the French, other one I saw he stayed at Promised Land Camp which is at the southern tip of south bay. Ive spent much time on south bay. we've had some success there with a 54" and a 52" (my first musky) but it doesnt seem to be a high numbers lake. Saric was always trolling in the main lake. We've had some success trolling, but I'm a caster at heart. Im headed there in July. Good Luck

I know you mentioned the west branch of the lake but what exactly does that cover? We started fishing the west arm last year, a trip in June and a trip in October. We fished the entire West arm and a little bit of cross lake in the one week periods that we were there.

Fishing in June was tough last year due to the late spring. We had only a few muskies and nothing to show for our time. Lots of pike though, which kept our minds in the game. We were told to locate new weeds and shallow bays. In october things were much better and we seemed to be able to get a better handle on where fish were and what they wanted to see. Again weeds seemed to be the key in October as well.

We will be going back for the opener towards the end of June and later on in the year in October. Hoping to have some better luck in June this time. The fish are there, we have seen people catching some giants in our short stays.

To be exact we are staying on the Northwest Bay area of the lake. I will have my boat so getting around will not be an issue. Making long runs to the upper french might be counter productive though as we specifically booked on the West because we didn't do to good down there a few years ago. Good luck you guys and thanks for the info.

Not familiar with the area at all, but a couple things you might want to look at in your down time would be, the Memquisit lodge website go to fishing then to west bay. They give a brief little bio on some of the bays in their area and what the types of fish in each bay.

Another thing you might want to check out is the Navionics site. Go to the webapp tab in the top right and zoom into Lake Nipeeing and then into your section of the lake. You can get some detailed information on depths, points, reefs, saddles, rocks etc...

Good luck this year,

Andy I'll be in touch. Thanks fellas. I didn't know about the Navionics web app site. Pretty cool stuff.
