I just recently purchased a Stratos Boat with a 2003 175 Johnson 2 stroke outboard. I am new to big outboards and I have 2 separate tanks 1 gas and 1 oil. The oil tank is pretty low. And I suppose there is a oil/gas ratio. What is the oil/gas mix ratio for bigger outboards. Any info helps... Cranker

The engine will inject the correct amount of oil automatically. You don't do any mixing. Just fill the oil tank with the correct type of oil.

Make sure to use Johnson/Evinrude oil only, and the correct one, XD30/XD50/XD100 there is a difference and J/E are very sensitive.

Hiya,

I would disagree with that statement. Any Good 2 stroke oil will work just fine in it. A recommended oil would be Amsoil HP injector. It is a synthetic oil with less fumes and burns cleanly, less smoke, and will work really well in any 2 stroke that is not a high pressure direct injection. From what I recall, the 175 is a carbuerated 2 stroke.

Not to say Johnson/Evinrude oil is a bad choice, but it is not the only choice out there. The synthetics, in my humble opinion, do a much better job of running cleaner.
