Anyone put much time in around the areas on the north side of Big Traverse area - like the big cupped bays on the west side of Big Island, w/s/se sides of Bigsby Island? What about the chains of islands between Bigsby Is. and and Big Grassy River like Goosneck/Village/Harbor Is. areas and Pork Pt.? I would imagine the Big Grassy is a spawning location. Bigsby & Big form the Basil channel but I don't hear a lot about the outskirts of the islands themselvs.. Imagine you'd have to be pretty choosy on the days you fish them and play the wind....

Posts: 291 Location: Madison, WI | Been down there. Was ok looking water(its LOTW) but nothing that isnt different everywhere else, was weedy in some spots but didnt find cabbage or anything good. We caught some nicer pike over there but never got into anything major for musky. Its a run down there and any kind of heavy wind from the west its gets moving fast. Its like anything else on LOTW, if your going to spend time to learn the spots and really get to know where the fish are, you have to spend some time down there working that area. And then go back.....and go back.....and we found that it just took time away from the other 200 known spots that routinely hold fish for us closer to camp and given the weather conditions needing to be right, its not worth the trip down. Cause if weather picks up, you may not go back for 2-3 days and the patterns probably changed. We never did get over the west side of Big or Bigsby and fish those giant bays and beaches on the west side. They do look good but im guessing your going to see mostly pike over there with it being by the huge basin of open water. I asked Doug J. the same thing a few years back and he said the same thing. Im not sure if the grassy rivers are big spawning areas. We used to fish in there when the weather was REALLY bad on the big water and couldnt get up to burrow or something sheltered and never sniffed a musky.....i mean nothing....just hammer handle pike and a few bass. Maybe they spawn in their but youd think they dont all leave or at least sniff something. Edited by PredLuR 3/18/2014 2:09 PM

Posts: 906 Location: Warroad, Mn | Very few muskies in the Big Traverse, Lots of nice pike. The DNR has been test netting the Big T for years and the total Muskie catch is almost zero. I know of one Muskie caught in Buffalo Bay. Why they don't live out in this area is a mystery to me. The east sides of Bigsby/Big Island and the Basil (between the two) is good Muskie water. Posts: 457 Location: Minneconia | Anyone have any theories on why they don't live in the Big T? So strange with all the food out there

Posts: 897 | No doubt. Walleye fishermen are complaining this year about how many tullibee they are catching. Maybe all the muskies that live out there are full?
