| Starting to try and figure out what I want in a new (to me) boat. I really like the bass style for the giant front and rear platforms, but I need something that is going to handle 3-4 foot rollers on big lakes and not sink. Looking for a late 80's to late 90's model boat. I would prefer a Ranger, but would be open to others assuming they fit the criteria.
Suggestions? |

Location: NoDak | there rare but can handle the end of the world, Warrior 2090sc (maverick?) huge bow about 12.5 feet and a 30 inch rear deck.
I guess mine will be 13 feet, I am bringing the deck to the console, and adding center rod storage, the factory gunnel rod holders take 8.5 foot rods easy

| Thanks for the suggestion - alot of great feedback on the internet about the 690 and 692 - but it doesn't appear to have a rear casting platform at all. I suppose custom is an option, but I have to imagine there exists a boat with a similar hull design and a bass boat style layout. |

| 681vs...especially if you can find one with the rear factory deck extension. I miss mine a ton...great boat!

| I have a 1996 Champion 191DCX Elite that meets your criteria. Handles big water well, big front deck and a big back deck. I've had it out in 3 footers (I wouldn't call them rollers, though...they were capping) a number of times without issue. Rollers wouldn't be an issue for most boats. As much as a boat's ability to handle waves is about the hull design, equally important is knowing how to drive a boat in those conditions. |

| Agreed about the Fish Hunter series, a buddy has one and it's an impressive hull that handles big water very well. He built an insert for the back deck, which makes that deck huge as well! Not a bass boat, though. |

Location: minocqua, wi. | in 1998 Champion built a single cockpit (similar to the 618) 18' Fish Hunter ... it was enormous with deep caverns for storage and lots of deck. awesome boat if you can find one. the bigger ones are nice, but the 98 18 footer is a truly unique boat. |

Location: Contrarian Island | Ranger 681vs is a great boat, the 690 is basically the same just bigger all around...same layout... can pick up 681s if you find a good deal for 9-13, 690s 11-17... great boats...g luck.. |

| I run a 1997 Champion Fishhunter 190. Huge front and back deck (with insert). Does a good job in big water. I've had it on the Great Lakes, Mille Lacs, Leech etc. Mid to upper 50's top end with 200 (I've hit 60 with a light load and just me). Will be starting season #18 without issues (if the ice ever melts) - awesome rig that you should be able to pick up without breaking the bank - if you can find one. I recently saw one for sale is Stoughton WI.
The model changed slightly in 1999 maybe - Fishhunter 194 with a slightly deeper style but basically the same boat.
I always say "I hope my next boat treats me as well as this one has". |

| In the true bass style boat it sounds like you are wanting a Champion, Charger or Basscat. All of those take rough stuff well and ride dry. The Rangers are nice boats off pad and fishing but don't ride that well and are a wet ride in the rough stuff. Length of boat is also going to be an issue, 19' is going to be min. for most big lakes. |

| Some dont like Nitros but I cant think of a better bang for the buck in Bass Boats. I have a 95 DC170 (17fter) dual console and its been great. Looks and drives like new still, only thing it ever needed was a new stator. With a 60hp Merc Ive got it up to 41mph and had it out in some nasty fall weather without issue. I have heard/read for a few years after 95 they had some fiberglass issues, that has since been resolved. Although like I said mines as solid as the day it left the factory. |

| I lived in Texas for three years, during that time I had a 1988 Ranger 390V bass boat. Tons of fun to drive, I had two speeds, off and wide open. Not the fastest by a long shot, that boat was a tank. Dragged it up to LOTW one time, was awesome to muskie fish out of once you got to the spot. On the rough days it would "wallow" prior to getting on plane when you were moving at low speeds and it was pretty easy to take water over the bow. If I was fishing big water all the time, not sure I would be in a bass boat. |
