Location: Eastern Ontario | Anybody know if the I pad mini has a GPS that would run the Naviomics app off the satellites only without cell data? What's battery life like? |

Location: plant earth | I have an iPad without data or cell connection is does not update your location. Unless I'm doing something wrong. I had it in the car without any connection and it would not update my location. I think another option would be and iphone or android type of phone with that app. Unless you have a cell phone you can teather or hot spot from. Hope this helps you out. |

Location: Eastern Ontario | I can run Navonics on my cell phone without data from just the satellites and only use it when in friends boats if I want to save a waypoint. I would like a bigger screen and I don't know if I have enough space for the new upgrade.
I had thought I had read somewhere that one of the Ipad models would work of satellites. |

| No the gps is part of the 4g cipset so need to have a 4g ipad and a data plan to be able to use it for your on board gps, as for battery life you'd probably get 5-6 hours with the screen on and the location constantly updating but if you have a 12volt outlet you could always plug it in |

Location: Kingston, Ontario | Believe Ipad 3 or new air is only one that will work like this. You do not actually need the data plan for it to work, but the functionality must be there.
Lots of info on thehulltruth.com on using tablets for GPS navigation etc. |

Is there a way to turn networks off in the settings like there is on my phone and go with satellites only. It works flawlessly on my phone and I don't have a data plan. Android.

Location: plant earth | I believe if you have a cell connection horse It will still update your location via pinging off of local cell towers if you have no data connection. id like to know as well if a mini air works with no type of connection. great idea. |

Location: Eastern Ontario | My cell phone app works off satellites only where there is no cell coverage. If you have data on lake Ontario you have to be careful to have it set so you don't get data roaming charges from the American side.

| The answer is yes. The I Pad as well as all new phone devices have a gps antenna in them just like your Lowrance unit the I Pad does not need to have wireless service or data to know your location. If you have ever had bad service and tried to use the map app on your device you have probably experienced that the map won't load but it will show you the icon where you are located. This is because the maps are in the cloud not on your device but if you run an app like I NaV X you pay for the charts that you want and they are downloaded to your device just like on a chip in your unit so the map data is there and everything works flawless. I have tested this in the middle of Green Bay where I have no cell service. To take it a step further I have my I pad in a life proof water proof case on a ram mount made for the I Pad and a charger hard wired into the boat for charging. The Lowrance Go Free app and wireless hot spot are also amazing it turns your IPad into a repeater screen that mirrors every thing on your graph in live time with no lag I now use it as a front graph and it saves $2500.00 from having to buy another large unit. You can also transfer your gps data from your graph to your I Pad with I NaV X and overlay it on the chart if you need help figuring out how to do that send me message and I can teach you it is tricky. |

| esox, great info. I kept forgetting to reply, about the navionics charts being downloaded to your phone. Do you have any problem with the IPad overheating in the sun? I have been meaning to get a tablet for work... Wonder if I could write off the RAM mount though??? |

| I have not had any over heat problems yet. With the life proof case you could dip it in the lake to cool it down if you wanted to though it is 100% water proof. I think you could write it off I also use the mount in my car for work it is the same mount the police use in there squads. Technology is crazy today big brother always knows where you are with your phone another thing most people don't realize is that in order to download apps you must agree to googles privacy policy which gives them permission to know where you are when using there app "FOR MARKETING PURPOSES" the company that created the app can access this data. Scary thing is when your kids are playing crazy birds they know where they are and when your using muskie fishing apps I guarantee people in the know also know where you are. |

| You can also do cool screen shots of your graph and send them to your friends. This is what the most gizzard shad I have ever seen in a cove at one time on lake Kincaid looks like

| First time I was on the water I had the same problem then I realized my brightness was really low I turned it all the way up and it is not a problem. |

Are you referring to Android devices ? I don't believe I've had to agree to ANY Google privacy policy for apps on my iPhone or iPad.
