Purchased a two bank charger this winter for my dad’s boat, 2012 Alumacraft Classic Series 165 CS, and the leads on the charger aren't long enough to stretch from the back battery compartment to the front battery compartment. How do I go about extending the leads? Also, where do you typically install the charger? I’m assuming, but could be wrong, that you aren't going to put it in the same space as the battery?

Most charger manufacturers make extension leads for their chargers. You can mount the charger in the same compartment as the battery. I am assuming that you have a 12V trolling motor and a starting battery?
What brand battery charger do you have?

Yeah, 12 volt V2 and then the starting battery.

The charger is a Cabela's Advanced Anglers ProSeries

You should be able to extend one of the leads to be long enough to reach the other battery! There should be a fused link in the line and it should be as close to the battery as possible!

My Ranger Reata 1850 came with a 3 bank Dual Pro charger that Ranger installed. I have 2 trolling motor batteries in the front and the starting battery in the rear. Ranger orders these chargers with a 21' lead and they install the charger by the trolling motor batteries and then run the long lead to the back of the boat to charge the starting battery!

I mounted my charger under the drivers side console, and drilled a hole in the battery compartment, and run the leads into it. I thought mounting it there,it wouldn't be as hot, on the charger. Good luck Doug

I could be wrong but I believe some chargers are not intended for the leads to be extended. I would ask shep. He seems to be the resident marine electrical rigger.

Pretty sure the Cabela's charger is a brand labeled ProMariner. Either way, Promariner makes 5' and 15' extension cables.

Here's a link to the install.
