Posts: 364 Location: Central Wisconsin | I have been making some small double colorado 8s. Do people regardless of size always have a hook at the middle and one on the end or when its this small do you just use the bottom one? The smallest lure is around 5 to 6 in. I was think wondering incase of a fish T-boning the lure.

Posts: 177 Location: ON | Just a bottom hook is fine. More often that not a fish with eat the whole bait if its only 5-6".

Posts: 364 Location: Central Wisconsin | Alright makes sense! Is there a negative to adding the middle one? as far as throwing off action or more chance or hurting the fish?

Posts: 345 Location: Poynette WI. | It's fairly easy for someone to add additional hook if they would like. Alot of guys change hooks anyways.

Posts: 364 Location: Central Wisconsin | Right, I am wondering if there is a negative to adding or building smaller lures with a middle hook.

Posts: 785 | Other than more hooks tangled in the fish's face when handling them and possibly not coming through weeds as easily, I don't know that there's a negative to going to 2 hooks. I wouldn't though since there aren't any positives either. On large double tens I like 2 hooks but I regularly use Llungen Tail DC-10's and even on those 1 big single hooks gets the job done just fine.

Posts: 2305 Location: SE, WI. | Dbl trebles may actually work against you keeping fish pinned. ONE TREBLE, especially if your burning them!!! I tend to disagree with the bigger hook . Most people will disagree with me, But, If I throw a 10" Jake at your chest, it will probably bounce off...If I throw a 5" rattling rouge with small trebles , Bet it sticks to you. My custom built dbl 10's, have a 5/0 rear hook, and a 7/0 under the blades. Most fish tend to nip at the back end of bucktails, and a smaller treble usually gets you that fish. Large trebles have more steel , and is harder to get hooks into a nipping fish. IMO!!! JD

Posts: 69 | I put a single 7/0 treble on all my small bucktails the hooking percentage is awesome.

Posts: 1360 Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | I throw some DC10s with only one treble. This is actually how I caught my PB. Only one hook on a DC10. Doesn't have to be smaller blades to use only one hook. I like using one hook better then two. I guess it all just comes down to personal preference.
