Hey Guys,

How are all you guys doing. As you can tell I'm a fan of walk the dog
type lures. But when do you guys throw these lures like the jackpot. What
are the conditions you guys look for some tips whould be appreciated.

If there is open water, it's jackpot time. My opinion. I have done well on them early in the season, just a few weeks after ice-out, in the summer, as well as early fall. I like to throw them when the wave action is low though, have more of a tendency to move into the Topraider, tail-rotator bait.

Hey MN,

Like Slamr said anytime your on the water is a good time to throw a Jackpot. Some of my favorite times are early morning and right at dusk.
Another thing, if you ever see fish active on the surface, like bait fish breaking the surface, get out your jackpot and throw right in there.
The Jackpot is one of my favorite lures!!!!:)

As a throw-back bait anytime! It has been by far my best throw-back. Actually, I can't remember too many times that it wasn't a good option. Maybe when it's too wavy to get a decent action out of it. Just remember to T the front hook so it doesn't dig into the bait an allow it to get waterlogged.

I love throwing Jackpot type lures in low light, calm water situations. Overcast/misty days may find me tossing one as long as condition persist. They're really a lot of fun. I've actually had more success with the Musky Mania Doc than any of the others (and I've tried a bunch of them!). The only cover situation where I will not throw this lure is in weeds reaching the surface. Working the edge is fine, but I've got more effective baits for probing the slop.

MN,

I love the Jackpot too! My first real encounter with any musky was while tossing a Giant Jackpot one evening on Lake Vermilion. It was a follow after dusk where the big girl was pushing a wake with her head (just like I'd read about in magazines!). She followed from about 40 yds all the way to the boat! Man, was I nervous. But even with the figure 8 she didn't take. 6 casts later my brother-in-law, Dennis had a follow from the same area with his Jackpot. Well, we've never been the same after that! Dawn and dusk, or relatively calm conditions on more overcast days. Or any time I feel like it......!    Heck, I guess I should just sell my other baits! Good luck!

I haven't had much success when the water is calm with the jackpot. I do better with a chop or even a bit of wave action. I have caught a few fish this year popping a jackpot over small waves...but the bigger the waves the more misses too.

Oops,
Didn't mean to post a response here...far from a pro so take my response as from a newbie. Just got carried away and forgot where the heck I was.

Truth be told,
I had never used jackpots much in the past. Started throwing them a couple years ago and now I loveum.

Calm evenings, or in a slight chop
seem to work best however, I will throw them at almost any time, day
or night.

the pike I took on it, have all been caught near dusk and under flat water conditions. Don't fish it too fast though.
