| I'll be heading to LotW for the first time this summer. My group is booked at Lake of the Woods Lodge in Sabaskong Bay, near Nestor Falls, and we'll be there during the last few days in June and first few days of July.
I'd love to hear some insight on any/all of the following points:
1. Lake of the Woods Lodge: any experiences there? How are the cabins, food, boats, etc?
2. Muskie fishing in that area, at that time of year: any information about the type of structure to seek out in the early season, recommended baits/presentation, or even specific areas would be great.
3. Guides: I'll be there as part of a larger group, and several of us will be interested in hiring a guide on the first day or two. May be interested in both a muskie guide and a walleye/smallmouth guide. Any suggestions or recommendations beyond or in lieu of the Lodge's guide boat?
4. Towing to Canada: I take multiple 5-6 hour trips each year, but this will be my first time going this far, crossing the border with a boat, or using the boat in Canada. Is there anything I should know, do, or prepare for in order to get the boat safely there and back?

Plan for the worst and hope for the best. Duplicate props for trolling motor and big motor, spare fuses, spare drain plug, screws, wrenches (inc. prop wrench), zip ties, jumper cables, duct tape, sections of 2x4 for changing flat/prop, jack stands, jack, lug wrench, breaker bar if you want. Are your trolling motor batteries good, as in, can they run a full day without issue? |

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | late June early July is generally a very hot bucktail bite...would start with Double 8's and work your way up. Can't go wrong with Black n Nickel. Take a few cranks or jerkbaits to keep them honest, but bucktail should be in the water at all times until proven otherwise
there's nothing you need to know about towing into Canada...have never had my boat searched or any questions asked about it other then who owns it

I think its good to start on a numbers lake. You can start to form patterns and read shield water and learn the types of spots that fish frequent. And there's plenty of options that can give you both numbers and shots at the big girl too |
