Posts: 149 | Anybody use the Spring Dawg or Mini-D with Dozer blades in front as a bucktail alternative? I have some single and double blade dozers that I am looking forward to putting in front of some of these smaller rubber baits. I like the way they look in the water and thought that maybe they would be a good change of pace for fish who have been pounded relentlessly with DCG's and Dawgs.

Posts: 216 | I Saw an episode of Muskie hunter "I think" recently that they were doing that very thing. Looked good. I don't think they got any fish that day on the show on em, but I thought, I need to try that.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | IMO that blade is just slightly big for these size lures. One thing you can also do is go out and buy some of the cheap Blue Fox or other brand of spinnerbaits or even take a part an old Mepps Musky Killer bucktail and use those. I have done this and it worked great with the Blue Fox bucktail I bought paired with a MiniD. If I can find it in my tackle I can take a picture of it. LOL just need to do some digging and I have the Chicago show I am prepping for right now. James

Posts: 109 Location: Ottawa Lake, MI | I've always wanted MI to make a spring heli dog. They make heli mags and regs but no spring. I think a heli spring dawg would be awesome in the spring around shallow weeds.

Posts: 157 | There is a Keys Episode where he was using a MI Bill Sandy single #8 Colorado in front of a spring dog and caught a 40.

Just need a few tools and you are innovating James

Posts: 1335 Location: E. Tenn | Shouldn't be too hard.. some .051 or .063 wire, maybe a # 6 or #7 of whatever type blade or two...oh the possibilities! Now James just conned me into ordering some mini "d"s..

Posts: 1084 Location: Aurora | I think someone caught a monster this year on a blade/dawg combo. Even had a name for the bait he put together. Can't seem to dig up the story/picture tho... anyone?

Posts: 149 | Thanks for the replies! James, do you feel that even a single #8 Colorado blade is too big for a Mini-D?
