Any reviews on this reel? Debating between the 20 H-C and the 400 Lexa 6:3.

Thanks,
Craig

Yeah I bought one last year and its the first reel that lasted all year without something breaking on it for me. They are hard to cast for some people though. Lots of backlashes if you're not used to it.

It's a great reel for big lures, a real work horse. I use mine exclusively for big rubber and it's holding up well. If you find yourself relying on fancy spool brakes, you might not like it. This reel is a nice complement to a couple of low profile reels imo.

I love mine for plastics, marabou blades, and weighted flashabou blades, but I can't stand it for lighter baits like cranks or light flashabou blades as they lead to too many backlashes for my taste

Thanks for the replies! Okay so it sounds like the backlash problem is still there. How does the "H-C" differ from the regular saltist other then an auto engaging clutch?

More drag power. 20lb vs 15lb I think...

The finish on the new one is supposed to provide better grip, don't know if it actually does as I never used the old one.

Craig … i got he 20H last year from the advice of Smellie Nelly and the only thing that is negative is that it engages within the first rotation vs. right away but you get used to it. the lever isn't a negative once you get used to that too and it was just a reliable and smooth, fast reel for cheap compared to others. i found one on the trade board spooled for $180 and grabbed it right away. i'm glad it got it and am really happy with it.

I agree with the lever comment. I was initially put off by the idea of not having a thumb bar, but in practice it has never been an issue. As for the handle not engaging until after a full spin, the reason for it is so that if the handle spins forward during the cast, it won't accidentally engage.

As I said previously I really like this reel for things like dawgs, both double 8 and 10 marabou blades, and weighted flashabou blades. However my thumb isn't trained enough for non-weighted flashabou double 8's and 10's or crank baits. At 35” per turn it’s a hard reel to beat for burning blades or working dawgs. I actually need to back off when throwing blades as I can easily blow them out of the water with this reel, but then again I bulge a 400 B pretty easily so I may just naturally crank faster. Heck if I’m getting lazy or am not confident in the way I’m working a glider, which I rarely am, the Saltist can basically do the job for me. Really the only reason I’m looking to sell mine after only 1 season is I’m going from two rods, an 8’ H and an 8’6” XXH to a 9’ XH predator and so just need 1 reel.
