Posts: 230 Location: St Paul, Minnesota | I went last Spring with Gregg Thomas and it was great! Boated three muskies and a 5lb bass, missed three others, decent pricing, lodging at his cabin was included, and he knows that lake. He's got several other guides he works with including Tony Grant who he constantly communicates with on his phone to see what's working, what's not, where people are seeing fish, so he's always putting you in the best situation to hook a fish. On top of that he's a funny guy, good conversation, and you'll come out of it knowing more about musky fishing than when you went in. After I came back up to MN/WI I caught 12 fish including my biggest of the season using what I learned from Gregg and applying it to my home waters. Check him out, give him a call, he's a good stick! http://www.battlethebeast.com/ Phone: (606) 776-6729 Email: [email protected] Edited by Cloud7 12/28/2013 11:05 AM

Posts: 65 Location: Garrison, Mn | What are the opinion about the best time to fish Cave Run. I'd like to make a trip there to break up the winter in Mn. When is spring in Ky? Ice didn't leave Mn till mid may last year. Or maybe it doesn't matter b/c lake in Ky don't freeze. Thanks

Posts: 2026 | Last year had screwy weather down south. I went to Cave Run in early May and the lake was still not on. Seeing how it's a 10 hour trip for me, I prefer to play it safe and will probably go later again, since you have to book a guide well ahead of knowing weather patterns. I went with Lance Seasor 1 day and Darrel Seasor the next. They were both fun to fish with and are also great fishermen. Edited by ARmuskyaddict 12/31/2013 1:38 PM

Posts: 2026 | The weird weather last spring made for a difficult fishing apparently.

Posts: 49 | The fisheries down here are always consistent on low to mid 40" fish in spring if you know where to go when. Of course it's still musky fishing but we still average at least a fish or 2 over 40" most trips when I get to pick exactly where I want to go. For the "catching" of fish anyway. I often go to the challenge areas when solo fishing to learn but when with guests or clients I pick the best arenas and our spring fishing is some of the best of the year. Lots of things to offset weather.

Thanks Late March to early April usually is the best time, but late February to early March can be very productive if water temps get high enough.
