Posts: 77 | Was just wondering if anybody had any reviews on the new Lexa 400. I've always been a Shimano/Abu guy but have been contemplating giving this reel a shot for next year. Here's a few specific questions I have: How much lower does it sit on the rod than the Tranx? How much higher on the rod does it sit than the Revo 60's? Smoothness in retrieve in comparison the the shimano's/abu's? How does it handle pounders?

Posts: 283 | There is a pretty good review of it in the thread below. I'm not sure if it is necessarily the info you are looking for but it should help overall. http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=87...

Posts: 77 | Just took a look at those link's. Definitely some good info. Thank you. I'm still wondering if anybody has hands-on experience with the reel. Sounds like the 300's had one specific issue with a plastic bushing. Did Daiwa construct the 400's with beefier internal parts? It would make sense that they did in claiming that the reel has 25 # of drag (same as Tranx). For the past number of years I've been using the Calcutta 400B's for blades/cranks & the Revo 60hs reels for jerkbaits/WTD topwater etc. The Calcutta's have given me very few issues over the years. I can't say the same about the Revo's. 90% of my clients prefer the low-profile reels so I'm trying to find something that is durable, can handle pounders, weighs less and sits a little lower on the rod than the Tranx. I've mentioned in previous posts that I trust Shimano reels over any others in regards to durability but there's a gap between the curado 300 and the Tranx in their low-profile selection that I'm looking to fill with something outside of the Revo's. Any hands on experience (either casting heavy baits or looking at the internal hardware) with these reels would be much appreciated!

| I realize the 300 had plastic bushings and it was a concern voiced, but did anyone actually have issues with it in real use? Thanks. BR | |||

Posts: 283 | I am still deciding between the 300 and 400, luckily I won't be using it until next April/May so I have plenty of time to decide which one will suit me better. BenR: I have often wondered the same thing, and if it does get worn out is it something that is easily replaced? So far I've mostly heard good things about it and for the price it seems like a nice deal on a nice reel.

Posts: 4342 Location: Smith Creek | The AC300 and Luna 300 also have plastic bushings. If there is any problems with those reels it isn't the plastic bushing wearing out, its the roller clutch failing. The pinion gear is more likely to fail than the bushing, in my experience. I think the roller clutch issue has been addressed with the Lexa but I am not positive. I have played around with the Lexa 400 but have not used it. Definitely lighter than a Tranx, slightly heavier than a Revo. A co-worker used one on LOTW for a week and was impressed with it.

| I remember reading of some complaints of a "squeak" here with the 300. Anyone know what came of that issue? perhaps it turned out to be a non-issue | |||

Posts: 12 | I've been using the Lexa 300 for over a year now and have no complaints. Smooth and tough. I even used it at the beach surf fishing and no corrosion or sand issues. You can find them new on ebay for around $145, which is nice. I also recently got a Shimano Curado 301E that is probably smoother but not sure yet since it is still fairly new to me. The Lexa has a higher drag capacity compared to the Curado. For the money, I'd say the Lexa is awesome.

Posts: 865 | I have found it to be the total opposite since the Lexa 300 was a 5/1 and the Curado was a 6/1 The Lexa was smoother than the Curano especially when you put any lure with resistance on the rod.. The lexa was always a bit more powerfull and easier and smoother to reel. IMO

| References to a squeak here on MF, link below, there are others if you google it. BUT I don't know if there really IS a squeak problem or if it turned out to be nothing. I notice no one on the recent threads about lexas are mentioning a squeak, so it probably is nothing. I don't want to start a squeak rumour. I just remember that there was one and wondered if anyone knew anyhting about it http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=78... | |||

Posts: 120 | I've had my 300 for over year now... caught a couple fish on it and really like it so far. I think the ergonomics of it are even nicer than curado and toro reels. Very comfortable to hold and fish with. Also the magnetic cast control is very handy and works great!

Posts: 160 | I have a 300 paired to the new tooth tamer xxxh 9ft. Used for pounders And big cranks. Not one issue all year. And I throw big baits all summer and fall. Also have 2 other 300s for other applications. But I'm super excited for the new 400 high line pick up for throwing big rubber and cranks

Posts: 283 | There's a nice video on tackledirect that talks about the 300 and 400. Not a lot of specifics but a good visual on the size difference. http://www.tackledirect.com/icast-2013-new-product-videos.html
