What are some thoughts on the hardhead made by phantom?

I personally liked the h2o made hardhead much better. Better colors and ran straight. I can't seem to be able to tune the phantom hardhead.

Anyone know where I could find some old h2o made hardheads?

I'm not a HardHead guy, (Bulldawgs Rule!!) But I believe Phantom has been making the bodies for several yrs....... & only now took over painting and selling. Right? ?
..interesting that they'd run different now.

I tried 2 of new ones.
They worked just fine, IMHO.

I also have 2 of the "new" Hardheads and they run fine. Perhaps its operator error. Instead of whining about your bait, call or e-mail the company. Rogers version didn't have some crazy , earth shattering action either , but caught fish nonetheless.

Have only fished with Rogers version of but phantoms quality is very high. Roger did a great job bring this lure to the musky community and phantom will not disappoint us. Give phantom some time and you will have more custom colors then you can afford

When people posts anonymous they feel 10' tall and bulletproof. We must be nice to each other, treat people how you want to be treated.

What did you do to tune them? if they go one way turn the tail as it is the rudder. if it goes left turn the tail to the right. The only other possibility that anything else is wrong would be that when the bait was molded that the weight was not installed while molding (unlikely) and the tail is installed very crooked. If the tail is a Kalin some colors were harder than others and will make the bait more sensitive to the tail being turned one way. Also do you have weight in them, if you are pulling them very hard with no weight the tail has more effect also. It is very easily tune-able unlike solid rubber baits. Do not be afraid to contact me and I will try and figure out any issues you are having.

Guest - Phantoms are the same as the ones I was making. They put the same paint and the same amount of epoxy on. They first part stands for you also, feel free to contact me also.

I had one of mine kicking out one way and as roger stated i just fixed the tail and she runs true.
I must have screwed the custom tail on a little off.

P.s. Roger did you send that PayPal statement over yet for the shipping?

Best to ask how to use the bait and how to tune it. Thanks everyone, especially Roger, for the answers!

Rudedog - Sorry I did not respond last night. I made the HardHead until the end of June and Phantom took over production in July of 13. When I converted it over to plastic injection I worked with the same company that makes the plastic Phantoms, so the switch was seamless in that respect and no changes. We have been finishing other details since and will be finished soon. Always willing to answer questions.

Use a long rod and sweep in different directions you can get the bait to dart all over place. Play with the weights front and back, different combinations can make the bait react differently in this manner.

I had the same issue with the old ones. After some farting around with the tail, they run great.

Ya, That's what I kinda remembered... Thought it was basically the same exact body. seemed odd someone would say they ran different.
