My sister wants a musky rod and reel for Christmas. The reel will be a Revo Toro NaCl 50. Can't decide between the St. Croix Mojo Musky in 8'6" H or the Abu Garcia Volatile in the 8'6" XH. The issue here is not H vs XH. I have a Big Nasty and love it but the price is too high for her. My dad has the 8'6"H Mojo and she has been using it when he's not and she likes it but the Abu looks like a great rod for the price. I guess the biggest thing is that the Abu has the nano technology similar to the Legend Tourney rods and is still $20 cheaper than the Mojo which has SCii graphite. We all faithfully love St. Croix but the Abu looks like you might get a lot more technology for your buck and if it's anything like the quality of the NaCl reels it's gotta be good. Does anyone have both that could give some opinions? Or anyone out there with the Abu what did you use before that and was it worth the switch? (aka did you go from St. Croix or other quality rod to Abu and not be disappointed? Obviously it doesn't matter if you went from a Berkley Glow Stick to the Volatile and were impressed) The choice is between these rods only unless someone has a great condition used Legend Tourny in the $150 - $200 price range. This will be an all around rod, she has some joint issues in her wrists so will most likely only be throwing up to Mag Dawgs, pounders very seldomly, but mostly 8" crank/twitch baits, small bucks, Mag Dawgs. Thanks

I have used St.Croix Premiers for close to 15 years and purchased a Volatile a few months back. I have little preference but I think that I actually prefer the Abu. Time will tell how they hold up though I guess.

Go with the Tackle Industries rods! You can't go wrong!
