Hello everyone, I just got a lure that was supposed to be brand new but its not, while its not in terrible shape it is defiantly used and cracking. Because its made of wood I was wondering how much it would be to have someone repaint it. All I want it to be is orange and black and most importantly sealed. How much would this cost?

How much depends on who does it for you. Most custom painters price by the size of lure and how much work is entailed in prepping the bait to be painted.

Myself - I do not deal with sanding, repairing or prepping baits...the bait needs to come to me ready to be painted and stripped of the hardware. Prices vary depending on the size of the lure and quantity of baits being done. My minimum charge for a single bait that is 6" to 8" is typically anywhere from $10 to $15. Some specialty custom paint jobs which require more time may effect the price as well and repeat customers or those who help promote my work also sometimes will receive breaks in prices.

Since this pops up often (people looking for custom painters) I took the opportunity to explain...there are several great painters on this site who take pride in their work and you would certainly not be disappointed in. Simply ask around and see who will fit best for what you are looking for. Most are looking for an economical avenue....If you're looking for something cheap, quick and just done to suffice for catching a fish....I'm probably not your man. However, when the bait I finish for you arrives at your door; whether a single simple color or intricate pattern, I guarantee you WILL NOT be disappointed. I take pride in my work and making sure that its done right and your finished lure will last through many catches!

Good Luck in your search.

same deal...i dont sand, but will fill scratches and 15 dollars to get into the door. the finish is warrantied for a reasonable time and usage. if you can get a lure done for 5 bucks, go ahead and try it out...

winter is here i will be in the shop soon..if you have some stuff you want done lemme know. i usually dont take on repaints anymore but am going to do some this winter cause winter sucks...lol

Paul Fec does amazing work and has quite a following on this site. Also Mike King from fishall lures has done a little work for me in the past.
My advice would be to defiantly go with quality over quantity. Buying used baits can save you some money and I've been satisfied with them 90% of the time but i have about 10 or 15 lures I don't even want to throw after using some of the customs i have bought off this website.

With winter approaching, I'm going to start taking in repaints. I'm basicly the same as Paul, 10$-15$ for most baits, depending on size. I prefer the prep work to be done, but will charge more if it needs to be done. I've painted several lures for people on the this site and my local club, so maybe some of these people can chime in on the quality of my work.
Thanks ,

I will certainly vouch for Marks "FUBAR" work....He does an outstanding paint job and finish! He also makes a quality bait (I do own a few myself).

Theres something to be said about the work of custom baitmakers and artists out there. Yes, you may pay a little more, but for me, it is well worth it. Of course, some will disagree and say "Its just a fishing lure meant to get chewed". This is very true but most of these beauties and works of art are far more durable than the cheaper jobs you find out there. And when you think about it...If these guys pay that much attention to the details of how it looks and finish, imagine the work they're going to put into making sure that bait performs to catch fish! We obviously take pride in what we do and it obviously shows and the price difference is typically just a few dollars....Again, to each there own, but I have sincerely been moved by the comments coming from many of the supporters and I want you all to know how much it really means to me....Thank you!

Mark Wright (fubar) has done several phantoms and a shallow raider for me. Unbelievable quality, craftsmanship, and artwork is all I can say. Contact Mark to have a repaint.

Mark, I will be emailing you this winter to do a few more!
