Posts: 555 Location: Tennessee | Looking to add a new 8'6"-9' rod to the arsenal and I'm between the Big Nasty and Tooth Tamer. I however haven't gotten the opportunity to use a Tooth Tamer. I'm also wanting full cork but I'm concerned the Big Nasty will be too short in the handle without having it extended, although the length of the split grip is about perfect. Any opinions from users of both?

Posts: 995 | big nasty it my favorite rod ever and as you mentioned the full grip does need to be extended. I have not used the tooth tamer but the 17" full grip handle is nice and I've read good things about those rods. Which model would you be considering the 8'6 xh?

| Yeah it'd be the xh version. On a plus I can get a handle extended local, just had another st Croix done, 4" for $20 | |||

Posts: 404 Location: Lakeville, MN | cant speak for tooth tamer rods, but I love my big nasty, probably the best all around I have used in my short time in the sport. I had mine extended to 18" handle

Posts: 833 | If you are in the big nasty price range I'd consider a Heavy Predator. Take 2" off the tip at 9'. Amazing! If you get it with Titanium Guides it will feel like a heavy bass rod in terms of weight.

Posts: 750 Location: Minneapolis, MN | You have to be in a specific delivery area for them to ship anything over 8'10" I think. I believe it's Tuscadaro Tackle, or something like that, that also builds customs on the predator blank.

Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | You were close, it's Tuscarora Tackle. Yes, I do build on the Predator blanks, TI blanks, St Croix blanks and any other blank out there that is available. To answer the original poster's question, I'd go with the Nasty- no competition. jeremy
