I wanted to share with everyone one of the two new baits I started making this summer.

This bait is called the “Stinger” it’s a side to side glide bait, 8 inches long around 6oz. I did the whole design on my CADD system at home in what little free time had (work, house stuff, baby...).

Once I got the 3d model done I waited till one of the machining centers at work got freed up then I was allowed to cut my mold. Once I got the mold complete then came the tough part, hoping I can get this bait to run…

After a summer of tweaking it, recutting the mold, screwing with just about every aspect of the bait, I got the bait to run. The part that gives me the most joy of this venture was it runs better than the benchmark I set for myself. I am very excited for exceeding my expectations. Many friends I have given the bait to have told me that the Stinger is the “easiest and best glider they have over used” I know a lot of the people who will be reading this (especially in the basement section of M1) know exactly how good that feels to have family and friends give great compliments on something that you have worked so hard to get right after so many failed attempts.

Once I got the Stinger to run it didn’t take long for it to get hit. In its first real week of use (once the NY season opened) the Stinger landed many muskies and a couple PB casting fish as a added bonus

You may have seen that I donated one Stinger to the Lisa Bloss auction, and I will be donating another to the Laura Morrison auction, a specially painted Stinger and soft tail 8” Raptor. I am in process of painting those 2 baits and will post photos here of the completed baits.

A bank fish I got on a perch Stinger. This fish hit after I called "Last cast" in this one area. So I pretty much took a running start with the bait hanging 2 foot from my rod tip, heaving the furthest cast I could. This crazy fish hit with only about 3 glides into the retrieve. Generally I lose those way far out there strikes but this guy was hooked with the middle hook and two points of the treble in the corner of it mouth.

The biggest NY fish from opening week.

I added a short video of underwater footage from a local pool, kinda neat to see what they look like under the water. I was surprised on how much vertical action some gliders have. I knew they had some but only looking from the top you never would figure so much.

Wow, awesome post! Absolutely love the look of those baits, and love the way it bounces underwater. My winter project is gonna be starting the whole process on designing a glide bait from scratch, so its inspiring to see this. Fantastic work!

Love this bait andy. Having used one for a couple months I have found nothing on the market that's as easy to use . Quality and craftsmanship is in a league of its own.

The day I had at the pool I got some above the water footage, I just got around to making it more upload friendly.

Like I said in my original post, from the top view it doesn't look like there was a lot of vertical movement but the underwater video shows it does. Kind of neat to be able to see both to compare (wish I had more time to do that with a bunch of different of baits). Toward the end of this clip I included shots of the rod tip and the action of the bait. It was my attempt at showing just short light taps got the bait to dance its dance, the rod I am using is a 8'6" so I feel the rod action needed is very minimal.

Very impressive! I assume they are made out of plastic. Haven't seen the video but expect the glide would be smooth and easy with great distance. If you have the time I would appreciate (without learning any of your secrets) being pointed to a you tube video that shows how one can build similar baits. Your work is inspirational, I may want to try it myself.

nice looking lure, your colors look like the t leopardis paint job.consider this as a good thing.if i was you i would remove the kind of fins on the back you know the thing that you can see on the hellhound,im almost sure it would help to have a lil bit of belly roll

Jano, some of the paints have Leo and Wiley inspiration, some of the paints are all my own making. I live close to those both Leo and Dale, I would consider us friends. With the amount of bait makers (including basement baits guys) living so close to those two I haven't seen one of them who haven't been inspired by either, whether its a paint pattern or a baits shape.

I attached a couple pics of the Stinger next to a HH. I know being a glider any bait will be compaired to either a HH or phantom. But from the people I have given a stinger to they never really said "this looks like a HH or reminds them of a phantom" It must be because the photos give no frame of reference as one would have holding the bait.

Some traits that set my bait apart from a HH. A HH is 7.25 inches long, I am at 8". HH runs 2 hooks, I run three hooks (I am happy to get it to run with enough spacing between the hooks they never tangle on each other, or on the bait)

 photo 236ba792-56a4-4c24-a519-4dbcb96f673a_zps081ba229.jpg

Its kinda tough to see but my sides are not flat like a HH you can see convex curvature both front to back and top to bottom, I revolved the Stinger to be completely void of flat spots (except for the intentional spot for my sticker on its forehead, the bottom of the eye socket and the wings)

I am going to hopefully some time today upload my vids on youtube and get a link here for those who are having trouble viewing.

Thank you all for all the great comments.

By product do you mean same paint? If so the paint I use is not the same paint as Dale or Leo. Those guys have been doing this for quite a while and have their own system down. I keep evolving my system, because I like to play around.

Great looking baits Andy! Are you going to be at the Butler/Cranberry or MuskieMax shows?

I will be vending 3 shows this coming year, 2 local shows (mike you got both local shows correct) the Butler, and Muskie Max.

I am really excited about my "big" show I will be at. I will be vending at Chicago. It is my first time going to the Chicago show, as either a looker or a vendor. So little intimidating but I think it will be a blast, I will see some friends I havent seen in a while, I hope to meet alot of new people and talk a little musky with them.
