Posts: 81 | Tried searching but couldn't find a solid answer. I'm planning on throwing 2-9oz lures with a Calcutta 400D and a TI XH 9' rod. What pound line should I go with? Was thinking 80lb but have heard others saying 100. Thinking either Sufix 832 (80lb) or Cortland MasterBraid (80 or 100lb).

As for the Suffix 832 I haven't used it but my buddy put it on his reel back in May & when we were out on Friday the line was all white. Some people complain about PP's color coming off but I have 3 yr-old PP on my reel & it's no where near as white as my buddy's 832.

Posts: 750 Location: Minneapolis, MN | I would go with 80# Cortland Master Braid. IMO there's really no reason to go 100# unless all you are throwing is mags and pounders. I've never used Suffix but I like Cortland over PP. Cortland is a lot easier to get backlashes out of and I've never had it break whereas I've had PP snap throwing a shallow raider and it wasn't on a backlash...

I'm not a big fan of 832. Started running it last year and I don't think it holds up very well. It tends to show signs of wear far quicker than their Performance Braid. I also had two incidents of lures breaking off this season. 832 was advertised to not to hold water as much as other braided lines, but I can safely say I cannot tell a difference. I'd recommend Sufix Peformance braid in 80lb for what you're looking to throw.
