Posts: 49 Location: Minocqua, WI | My brother and I just got back from a trip to Wabigoon. We are new to Muskie fishing and I was just hoping to land a 40 inch'er. The fishing was fantastic. 61 Pike in 6 days. A few of them were tanks too! I missed out on two Musky strikes earlier in the week. We fished hard (12 hours per day)Then on the last morning, we hit the Muskie lottery. It started out with a light rain as a front was moving in. We were in a small weedy bay about 8 feet deep and I got the strike. When I set the hook, I knew it wasn't another Pike as I saw the flash of white in the water and it was huge. The fight was incredible. I was in complete awe over the strength of this fish. A few minutes later we managed to boat this 54 inch/46lb beast! She was kinda beat up. Lot's of battle scars and a damaged dorsal fin. The release went well. She swam away strong. You can see in the pick that there was a open wound on the back right side too. I don't know if that happened during the fight. This lake has a lot of structure she may have hit. Both of us still kinda in a state of shock, we decided to fish this small bay a few more minutes before moving on to the next spot. I was still shaking from adrenaline, so I kicked on the trolling motor and sat down. I was filling my coffee mug from the thermos when my brother yelled "Fish on" from the back of the boat. Figuring it was another Pike, I said "you got it or need help". At this time I looked over my shoulder and saw his rod bent over like it hadn't been all week. Then the fish came half way out of the water and we realized we had another Musky on! He was gonna need some help....lol. This one actually fought even harder than the first one. It kept switching from one side of the boat to the other. I was worried we were gonna get wrapped up in the motor prop, but we finally landed her boat side. This one was 46 inches and 36 lbs. These fish were caught in the same exact spot only 10 minutes apart and right before a storm front. His was within 5 minutes of releasing mine. It was another quick successful release. I turned to my brother and said, "did that really happen? I feel like my alarm clock is about to go off any second". The goon is a amazing place. The trip was really great even before the last morning. The ending was just taking it to a whole new level. Edited by kmeyer 9/8/2013 9:02 PM

Posts: 441 | Awesome fish, guys!!! Congrats on a great trip!! You might want to get a bigger net. That will be a lot easier on the fish. The fins and tail won't all ripped.

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | Very nice, good for you. Especially with those bigger fish please consider horizontal hold only like the last pic. There is strong evidence of vertebra damage at the back of the head when all their weight is hung vertically. But good job on the catch and the release.
