Who sells the sharpest large 6/0, 7/0 & 8/0 treble hooks? Mustad has the 3551 but they are not very sharp ( I know I can sharpen them). I'm looking for the "out of the box" sharp and maybe a 2x strong or so.
Thanks for any thoughts.

I'd like a hook that handles hitting rocks better than the Mustads, they need sharpening after every little ding with a rock.
Anyone use VMC 9617?

I use all VMCs and I'm pleased with them. But I don't have a lot of rocks to fish here, so I can't comment on their rock resistance.

unfortunately in the 7/0 range there is not a lot of choice.plasma point is really awesome but once you hit a rock its game over because there is now way to resharpen them.are you sure vmc made some treble hook in the 7/0 range?

Yes, VMC does make a hook in the larger sizes. That would be the 9617 treble which is a pretty darn nice hook. I still sharpen all my hooks before use but these will hold the edge well and sharpen nicely.

in the 6/0 size use Eagle Claw 774, their 5/0 is the same size as Mustads 6/0.

I use the VMC 9617's 6/0 & 7/0 on my DCG's. Not may rocks in LSC but they go through plenty of weeds. I've been pleased with them.

Thanks for your comments. Knowing which hooks stand up to rocks better than others and that some are difficult to resharpen is good information. I've had to resort to trolling for the bulk of my muskie fishing as my brother has physical limitations. I DO sharpen a lot of hooks but sometimes it would be nice to have one less chore to do since my hands are pretty full dealing with the situation I am in.

p.s. sorry to see that "NOBODY" thinks I am lazy. Perhaps if the roles were changed he would understand.

Not because you're lazy, but you should sharpen them anyway. Just do it in advance, like over the winter, so you don't have to while dealing with all the other stuff. Maybe need to touch them up now and then if hitting rocks. The 3551 is dull to start but sharpens easily and touch up easily. The 774 is pretty darn good to begin with but could still use a stroke here and there. And last I heard their attempt at a 7/0 still isn't as strong as their smaller ones.
