Location: Hayward, WI | I have tried to measure this before with a clamp on amp meter but got weird readings. I believe that is due to how the Maximizer works and pulses in these. With max draw of 56 it should draw about .70 amps per lb of thrust, but the maximizer is more efficient at lower speeds. I asked a Minnkota rep last spring and he said that it should draw no more then 18 amps at 5. |

so in theory, if you have 2 31 size batteries w say 180 reserve capacity and you have the motor on 5 you 'should' be able to run them 9 hours straight ?

Location: Watertown, MN | They used have a curve on hrs of use based on power setting, but I would be betting more 4-5 hours of continuous use. Also if you pulse on and off the power, this cause additional amp draw.

Location: Hayward, WI | RC is 25amps at 80 F. My head hurts too much to do the math but I know I can run mine, on 2 group 27 with 180 RC, at 5 - 7 for 8-10 hours and have juice left. |

Location: Watertown, MN | Reserve capacity is the number of minutes a battery can maintain a useful voltage under a 25 ampere discharge. So with a 180 RC, you would get 3 hours of use on continuous use. My guess is you batteries issues have to deal with no getting the amps need to charge batteries in Canada, or someone accidentally unplugs your chord. To many chargers on 1 20 am circuit at resorts. Funny how battery problems go away when you return home.

Seriouslly. If you want to measure your TM current draw, you need a digital volt meter (DVM)and a 100A current shunt or a DVM and a hall-effect current probe. A standard electrician's current probe won't do it. Don't forget, the TM should be in the water when you do this test.

Location: Contrarian Island | the Minn Kota techs gave me some good info...basically it boils down to our batteries not getting a full charge.
One boat in our group had the Minn Kota on the fly charger that reallllly helped keep his batteries charged...we will have that in the boat next year for sure.
for the guys going to lotw and eagle and doing lots of running it's $125 bux well spent
