Hey guys,

Just curious, but what do you guys use for sunscreen? Being outside most of everyday I have tried just about them all. I hate the stuff with a passion and wear long sleeves and big hats when I can but when it gets above 90 I just can't handle the extra clothing.

I've had good luck with bullfrog over the last couple years. It seems to keep me from burning for the whole day. However about an hour before the sun hits the horizon the sweat and sunscreen starts hitting the eyes and I tend to become temporarily blind for short periods of time until I wipe them clean.

What do you guys depend on?

Rick

I've been using Coppertone Sport the last few years and it seems pretty decent. Available anywhere, and doesn't seem quite as greasy as the others. My wife uses 90 or 100 SPF Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch. Sounds pretty girly and I don't really use it but it's pretty amazing how dry that applies.

I think I usually get about 70 SPF stuff. Seems I heard once that an SPF higher than about 40 or 45 doesn't actually do anything better, but I haven't researched it enough to be informed so I stick to a little higher ratings.

I used the No-Ad 60 while pier fishing in Florida for a week and then again all last weekend while musky fishing here at home and I have not had a sunburn this year. It looks and feels a little oily when first applied, but it sure beats the alternative.

My grandma actually gave me some of that Neutrogena sunscreen and I thought the same until I tried it. It's not greasy and you can barely tell its on. Great stuff I highly recommend it.

The Neutrogena Dry-Touch is great stuff, I like SPF 100. It's broad spectrum so includes both uva and uvb protection. In the past I used No-Ad, but it felt greasy and would always end up in my eyes by the end of the day. I also found the Walgreen's knock-off of the Dry-Touch, it's quite a bit cheaper with the exact same ingredients.

Oh I forgot to mention the burning eyes thing. The key is to not put any sunscreen above your eyes! I always wear a baseball cap and sunglasses in the sun, and I have the white forehead tanline going on. Don't get the burning eyes and your forehead won't burn with a hat on.

the dollar store,,,,,no kidding

I watched an indepth program on public TV about sunscreen and it is a product that has a very short shelf life it starts deteriorating fast after its made,,they suggested its better to buy cheap sunscreen and use alot of it fast then to buy the expensive stuff and make it last longer.
Ive been buying one called
"MAX SUNBLOCK SPF 30" for $1 for a 4 oz tube at the dollar store been using it three seasons now and it works great-no sunburns and Im out ALOT.

Or look at the expiration date. Sunscreen without an expiration date has a shelf life of 3 years. Don't get suckered into the SPF 100 crap. 30 or 40 will do just fine.

SPF 30 is about 97% protection; SPF 100 is about 99% protection, so yeah, the difference isn't as dramatic as the numbers make it seem.
At the same time, many of the higher SPF-rated sunscreens also include better protection against UVB (rather than just the UVA protection described by the SPF rating); UVB rays are the part that cause deeper, longer-term damage.

My favorite sunscreen is a nightclub after hours with a cold beer in my hand with some sweet thing swinging on a pole.

Really?

Just got back from a trip up north the sun was a killer, And I hate sunscreen but use it when and were needed . This trip I tried a few new anti sun gear one was the Buff head gear. If the fishermen in Florida wear them It must work ,( similar to what Pete Mania wears) ,its alittle tough to get used to and I used no suncreen on my neck and face, No burn what so ever.
I also tried the Cabelas Guide wear long sleeve shirts in all your favorite tropical colors ,Blah . SPF 50 rated . I still have the same farmers tan as when I got there, not even color on my shoulders. it worked also .

Banana boat spray- applied generously before entering the boat. And for the past year I've been using a sun cap, the kind that covers the back of your ears and neck, over a bandana. If it's under 90, I might sometimes also wear a long sleeve boat shirt, the kind with the aerated back sleeve.

Who was the company that was at the Mil. Expo that sells sun masks and sun gloves? That's what I'm talking about- nice product IMO.

If you use the sunscreen that comes in an aerosol can, be sure not to let any overspray get on the screen of your depth finder. it can be very tough to remove. it can also leave white spots on certain vinyls, but armor all usually can clean that with no problem.
