I have a 2011 Lund Predator I bought new. This year I noticed a gas smell and some chewed carpeting so I took it in to get it looked at. Mice had gotten into the hull. I always put stuff in the compartments but never thought of doing it in the hull.

I filed a claim with my insurance (Progressive) because I have rodent coverage. Or so I thought.

Turns out that since I don't have/use a cover the policy has an exclusion for rodents. So now I am out a huge chunk of change because I didn't check my policy close enough.

that thoroughly sucks. So if you just had a cheap walmart boat cover they would have covered it?

Do you keep your boat inside? The insurance wants you to cover it even when inside? I'd rather not have my boat covered due to condensation/trapping moisture inside. They probably won't cover floor rot if you cover your boat... I think I'm about as honest as they come but it might be a situation of: "Cover? Of course I cover my boat..."

My boat is always kept inside. They still want it covered. Progressive just lost a few policies from me. And of course I had to give a statement before I found out there was this exclusion in my policy so I have no recourse. Instead of my $500 deductible I get to spend almost $2000 out of pocket.

A co-worker had mice get in his boat over the winter and chewed up the interior. His insurance agent told him that if he had a fitted cover he was covered. if it just had a tarp over it or sat in the garage uncovered he had no claim. Funny thing is this is the same person who told me Irish Springs soap keeps the mice out ( it works!! ) he never took the time to do that last fall.

I wish I could agree. I put them in the drawers on my Snap On box in my building. Couple weeks later, open the drawer to find a pile of mouse turds atop the dryer sheet and it stained with urine...

Worst part is that the wiring harness they need comes directly from the vendor, not Lund. Could be 3 weeks before they get it.
So no fishing for almost a month!

I've always put moth balls into plastic trays and set them in three to four places in our boats before we tarp them up for the winter. We have never had an issue. However at the cabin I set mothball packets within an inch of one of the active area traps, and low and behold three mice last fall eating right next to the mothballs.

+1 on the moth balls. The last few years I have paid for storage at the dealer that winterizes the boat and no issues when I pick it up and no moth ball smell. Don't know what he uses. I use decon around the garage and have had a problem in a year or so.

Homeowners Insurance covered mine.Somehow I believe the remains in the spring were a squirl or possum. He got into some Muskies lures and busted a few as well as chewing up everything.Poor Bastard died a horrible death.
