Posts: 173 | That took longer than I thought it would after minnkota/humminbird/lakemaster but good to see lowrance finally getting active on that side of things to join forces with motorguide.

Posts: 676 Location: Wisconsin | Could see this coming. Motorguide announced a new motor with "iPilot" abilities, then hooks up with Lowrance. So now both companies will have systems. Then Lakemaster comes out with Autochart, just like SonarChart. Line up and take sides I guess. The bad deal is anyone who likes one part over the other is going to be out features. Like MinnKotas, well you have to buy Humminbirds to get the advanced features. I personally don't like being locked up on big parts of a boat like that. Just like Lund and Mercury.

Posts: 437 | muskiemetal, I agree 100%. I never considered motorguide before, but if their new models have features that rival minn kota I will. I personally do not care for their other models, just me, so this could get me to move over. Im on the Lowrance side of the fence so this is good news, but I still am not sold on this chart-driving trolling motor thing. The charting is going to have to get a whole lot more accurate than it is currently for it to be effective AND, I dont just pick a depth and follow it.

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The beauty of using the GPS and electric motor in tandem is to allow you to 'paint' the line you want to follow; haven't seen the Lowrance/MotorGuide product yet, but it looks like you'll be able to.

Posts: 437 | sworrall - 7/18/2013 9:08 AM Yeah, as I was reading a little more about the press release I think my mind immediately leaped to this being just like iLink. Based on the verbiage it seems its "chart-controlled" meaning you plot a path and it will follow it, versus select a contour like iLink. The beauty of using the GPS and electric motor in tandem is to allow you to 'paint' the line you want to follow; haven't seen the Lowrance/MotorGuide product yet, but it looks like you'll be able to. I like the Pinpoint Connect idea better. Granted Im still stuck on Gen1 electronics so I have some upgrading to do, but I think I know where I am headed next!

Posts: 437 | "With connectivity to the Xi5 MotorGuide wireless trolling motor featuring Pinpoint GPS and PinpointConnect, HDS Gen2 and Gen2 Touch users will be able to easily perform the following navigational functions directly from their chartplotter display: visualize PinpointGPS navigation, set anchor at current location; set, recall and navigate to waypoints or the cursor, plot a course or recall a trail; and maintain a current boat heading. PinpointConnect will adapt to any existing Pinpoint GPS-enabled MotorGuide trolling motor allowing it to be connected to a compatible Lowrance device. When installed, PinpointConnect enables anglers to see and control Pinpoint GPS navigation functions within the high definition screen technology available on Lowrance HDS® Gen2 and Gen2 Touch electronics. Posts: 2686 Location: Hayward, WI | All this stuff is pretty cool, but how accurate is it? I imagine it must be only as accurate as the GPS position error? If it allows the boat to drift 15-25 feet in all directions I'm not sure if that's accurate enough for some of the structures I fish. Probably several cases it would be accurate enough and talk about hands (feet) free fishing in those situations. Tucker

Posts: 676 Location: Wisconsin | Accuracy of SPS GPS signal. It's pretty accurate. I am just stuck with liking my Terrova, and my HDS. Wife might start divorce proceedings if I suggest rotating out electronics...... Attachments ---------------- histogram.png (39KB - 268 downloads)
