Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | I've know for a while but didn't want to let out too much until the higher ups handled it. I'll refrain from comment other than this is a bad deal for anglers. Hopefully Utah will keep their program going.

Posts: 661 Location: Roscoe IL | What a colossal mistake not putting up no fishing signs. Outside of Skiing Utah is certainly not a vacation destination or one that pops up on my radar screen when planning a trip. I can’t imagine that this will impact tourism one bit, just the locals and anglers targeting and planning a tiger muskie trip.

It stinks for CO, as they were going to be our source for tigers as well. My guess sadly is both programs will disappear. BR

Posts: 20218 Location: oswego, il | I am sure they will find a way to get some fish to continue the program. colorado was different, they never managed muskies as a game fish. what I do not get and it could just be that I have never seen the place is this. its a fish hatchery. is it possible to fish these ponds and not know your in a fish hatchery?

Yes. They are pretty much just ponds. Really has nothing to do with tourism. People who travel to Utah for fishing come for trout. Overall pretty embarrassing. Hard to fault the angler. Wish I knew about it, I'd have gone and had a blast!

Colorado is the same, the program ended because they are not able to import fish and were not able to get clean brood stock. They were hoping to get them from UT to start their own program. This is a big deal for muskie out west. BR

Why can't Utah call up the Minnesota Muskie Farm and have a special order delivered to Utah? I would think it could be possible?? I mean if they want some fingerlings bad enough they can get them. I would think in Wisconsin the locals would create a fundraiser to get enough cash. There's no way we'd accept that as a final answer. I'm not sure if Utah has enough esox anglers out there for any fundraiser though. That sure is one beautiful animal the guy is holding up! Wow!!!!

They can't accept any fish from states that have exposure to some of the diseases that have come through the past decade or so. They need to find "clean" fish. BR

Tiger musky specific. There are no true musky waters in Utah, so there was no need to regulate them. In the end it was a colossal error to not have signs/fencing up. Very unfortunate all around.
