Anyone have any reviews on these, thinking about picking up one of the lanterns. Maybe I'm totally overthinking this, but should I be worried about the scent affecting my lures?

I'm worried whether the scent even affects the mosquitos I tried Thermacell years ago, and it didn't seem to work very well then. But over the years I've talked to a few guys who gave them a pretty good thumbs up, saying yea they seem to work pretty well. So I tried it again this last weekend. It didn't work any better now than it did then, even with brand new pads and cartridge. At least on the state bird in the parts of Minnesota I fish. They were about to carry me off. I think a few of them were lifting me by the Thermacell hanging around my neck. Deet works for me, just need to make sure not to get it on stuff.

I've used a Thermacell in the woods and around my house when the skeeters come out. I'd say they work but you have to be sitting still or very close to it. Anchored watching slip floats for walleyes they can work, but I think casting or trolling probably not as much. Maybe on a calm night if you are moving very very slowly they could help. Haven't really tried it yet.

If you try one in the boat, I wouldn't worry about the scent on your baits.

I have used one for years deer hunting. They do work but only when there is little to no wind. Casting along a shore line at 1-2mph it will not work. The repellent will just blow away.

Thermecells work by producing a repellent vapor cloud so you gotta be sitting still with with minimal wind. I've used mine with success in the turkey blind and even at work if I have to be in one spot for long periods of time.

We set it under our patio table at the lake. Works great for black flies , not as good for skitos.

A buddy was telling me how great they were at his lake place. So I stopped over to have a brew and check it out. He had about 8-10 of them hung around his deck. It was calm out and we were not bothered by the skeets. So maybe more is the answer?

Ditto on the above posts. I wouldn't go in my blind without one for early bow season, but I think they are just 'alright' if you are on the boat. Too much air movement just pushes the repellant away. I always use just good old fashion stinky deep woods mosquito spray w/deet. Just be sure not to get it on your hands or plastic in your boat.

I feel I get decent protection in the boat by putting one in the stern and one in the bow. The work best when sitting by the campfire having a cold one. I put under my chair and it works like a charm.
