Subject: Big Bait Rod- LT Big Nasty vs Big Dawg

Hello Everyone,
I'm looking to add a 3rd rod for big baits to round off my arsenal. I already have the LT Long Ranger and LT Sling Blade. I have it narrowed down to the Big Nasty or the Big Dawg. I want this rod to handle big blades, Mag Dawgs, etc. I will more than likely throw a Calcutta 400D on this rod. I prefer a rod that loads well and provides a nice curve when fighting a fish. I have never fished either of these rod models. From a side-by-side comparison at a retail store, the Big Nasty seems much faster and loads much better than the Big Dawg. Which one will it be!?

Thanks
Paramuskyhunter

i own both, the big nasty is set up to throw all of my big blades and my regular size plastic. the big dawg i fell is a better rod for the heavy plastic baits. The big nasty seems to load better then the big dawg but both fight fish pretty even.

Got the Nasty this year and LOVE it. Awesome in the 8, great for tails and anything less than a pounder basically. My preference is full grip as well, but it just depends on how you hold the rod.

I'm a huge fan of the Big Dawg. It's built for big baits but it also throws the small stuff surprisingly well. I use mine to throw small single 8's as well as the smaller Kickin' Minnows.

But, if you're looking for something that loads well, you're probably not looking for the Big Dawg, I'd recommend the Nasty.

Thank you for the information! I prefer full-cork grips as well, but prefer a longer rear-handle than the 14" full-cork that comes on the St. Croix 8'+ long rods. Therefore, I see a Big Nasty extended to 9'3 or 9'4 in my future....

If a person was only to run two rod set-ups for everything Mag Dawg size and smaller, I'm thinking the Sling Blade and a Big Nasty would be an awesome duo...

Thorne bros can make a custom on the nasty blank. Not to much more than a stock one off the shelf.

IMO a custom rod is the way to go. I just built 8' heavy with a fast tip on a MHX blank with spiral micro guides and it casts excellent.
