I'm purchasing a new(to me)boat soon and I have the chance to start from scratch on electronics. My old 618 I had an HDS 8 on the bow and two lms 520's on the console, that's as far advanced as I've been. I've heard really good things about 'birds and am thinking about going that direction and utilizing side and down imaging technologies...for any of you running bird's, what would you recommend as an ideal setup for musky fishing? I cast 95% of the time. Thanks, any tips or ideas on what models(other than 1100 series)and how to set them up and utilize them would be a big help.

I recently upgraded to a pair of 958 hd di. Had lowrance 104 c and x 67. Couldn't be happier technology has came a long way from my last purchase. The best thing for me was to check it out at the store so you get a feel for what you like and all the wonderful features. They even had both navionics and lake master maps to play with. I would have liked to get 1100 series unit but now that I have them in the 8" screens were perfect for me. Really nice stuff

I have an 1197 and an 858 and I agree with what the guys said above I love my units, ive had some issues but they are great. make sure you update them too so you keep up with all the new ideas hummingbird comes up with. Also i would like to say that the birds have alot better mapping than lowrance does. especially with the lakemaster maps and being able to highlight depths and change water levels. I recently saw a new lowrance 12 inch touch and my older 1197 with lakemaster is way better ( in my opinion)

I second that!! I have the exact same set up, with the addition of the i-pilot link and these graphs are worth their weight in gold!!
